Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Monday 1/1

Garnet Barnsdale|Dec 29, 2023
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 576 - 1772 / $3,017.60 (-$526.40)

Best Bets: 88 - 166 / $310.10 (-$19.30)

Spot Plays: 30 - 169 / $186.90 (-$151.10)

Best Bet: HAPUNA BEACH (8TH)

Spot Play: ST LADS BEAT IT (1ST)

Early Pick 5: 2,4,7/1,8/4,6/5,8/2,4,5 = $14.40

Late Pick 5: 4,5,6,7/6,9/7/2,7,8/2,3,9 = $14.40

Early Pick 4: 5,8/2,4,5/4,5,6,7/6,9 = $9.60

Late Pick 4: 6,9/7/2,7,8/2,3,9 = $3.60

Race 1: CLM HDCP $30,000 to $40,000 **Gtd $100,000 Pick 5**

(4) ST LADS BEAT IT won racing first up Wednesday night at Flamboro when claimed by Marfisi and I’ll call him to repeat on the quick return here. (7) DONTPOKETHEDRAGON is hot, and he will likely get claimed again here so another all-out effort is likely; using. (2) B STONEY was motoring late last week racing in about the 10-path in deep stretch. I could see him vaulting past these late if there is any mid-race battling. (6) I AMA ROCKET is capable on his best, but I prefer to use him underneath in this spot.

Race 2: 5YO and younger winners of 2 (F&M3) but not more than 5 or $45,000 LT

(8) MSFRANNIE had good speed early and late when she dead-heated for the win here on Boxing Day and she looks good to repeat vs. these. (1) MERCUTIO was no match for a big winner last time, but he stacks up well here and he should be the main threat. (5) TITAN FLAX S comes off a decent closing effort on 12/22 and he figures for a share here. At press time, he was in to go on 12/29 from post 10 in Race 7. (6) CRYSTAL BALLER should be good for another slice in this spot.

Race 3: CLM $8,000

(6) ROYAL REGATTA drops and gets Roy in the bike, and he lands in a spot where he has a good chance to control the race on the lead from the outset; top call. (4) NO TIME AT ALL paced a nice back 1/2 into an accelerating late pace to get 3rd and he is the other one that I’ll use on the early Pick 5 ticket. (3) OFFICER JONES was too far back last week. Roy will likely sit closer with him this time and he should be an exotics factor. (7) DREAMFAIR MOXY didn’t show much at Flamboro on Wednesday, but he is capable of taking a share in this spot.

Race 4: Horses that have started for a purse of $15,000 or less in 1 of L3 - Pick 4

(5) DAHLQUIST HANOVER is on a big roll, and he is the one to beat here shipping in from Flamboro Downs with a four-race win streak in tow. (8) KEVIN ANTHONY dropped, popped, and took a new lifetime mark. He should be the main danger to the choice. (2) CROSSFIT produced a very fast kicker last time and he should be part of the exotics here. (9) TAILGATE BUZZ used post relief to advantage to take a win last week now he moves outside again; small share predicted.

Race 5: NW $8,000 L5 or $17,750 L10 AE: OPT CLM $50,000 or NW2 in 2023

(4) PATRIARCH HANOVER was victimized by a snail’s pace last week and trying to overcome it racing first up was mission impossible. He drops again and he gets McNair now. I expect an aggressive steer tonight. (5) ALL WRAPPED UP finished 1/2 length behind the choice in that race, also trying to pass horses late. He should be an Exacta factor here. (2) WALKONTHEMOON is another that drops out of the same race, and he split the top two. He could land in the pocket here and that makes him a contender for at least a share. (3) RITSON is one that frequently takes shares that is good to use underneath in Tri and Super bets.

Race 6: CLM HDCP $19,000 to $24,000 - Pick 5

(7) MACH IMPACT produced a big rally to get up for the win racing in the fog on Boxing Day and he faces similar here; call to repeat. (5) MUSIC TO MY GEARS got a run up the pylons and he was nailed by the choice who had more momentum. He should be the main threat again. (6) MASKEDMAN stayed in as the 6 to 5 choice, found a lane in the stretch and only closed mildly on the top two choices. He could leave more aggressively this time and that makes him a possibility. (4) MR BEAST is another that stayed in that had little chance. I can see him landing in the bottom of the exotics this time.

Race 7: 5YO and younger winners of 2 (F&M3) but not more than 5 or $45,000 LT - Pick 4

(6) MATCH MEIF YOU CAN was raced aggressively over a wet track last week and she hung on for a dead-heat win. She loses Henry here, but she still should be the one to beat. (9) CENTURY JAGUAR is the one Henry sticks with and they teamed up for a blowout lifetime-best win two starts back. He should be right there tonight if he stays trotting. (1) LIKE CHAOS gets Macdonald for this second start back and these types often get pounded at the windows then jog. Tab the tote for clues. (5) FLOYD THE FREAK races off the shelf in a field where he should be able to close for a share.

Race 8: CLM HDCP $10,000 to $12,000

(7) HAPUNA BEACH jogged, trouncing 11 rivals racing off the Waxman claim, and he should be tough to beat here facing only seven rivals now. (4) TRIDENT SEELSTER made a nice late move to nab 3rd on Boxing Day after starting 11th from post 12. That was a good effort, and he has a good chance to complete the Exacta. (1) FLASH TOTHE FINISH was a winner with Roy in the bike here two starts back and he should get good position early and ride it to a share. (2) WINDSONG GRAYSON passed half the field on 12/26 and he can pass some of these to take a slice.

Race 9: CLM HDCP $14,000 to $18,000

(2) ROYAL RENEGADE did all the work last time and was picked off right on the line by the pocket sitter who enjoyed a perfect trip. He is the one to catch and beat here. (8) ISITFRIDAYYET draws widest again, but there are only seven rivals lined up to his left this time, not nine. He should be the main threat to the choice, and he may take command from him on the backstretch; using. (7) THEDOGINTHEFIGHT made a decent late charge in his first start racing off the Fellows claim, and he is another that should be helped by the shorter field, and he is in with a shot. (3) JAKE LOEWEN should close for another share here off another inside following trip.

Race 10: CLM HDCP $10,000 to $12,000

(3) J J TOMMY got used up early from the 10-hole last time racing in a 12-horse field and he faded to last. He will offer a better price here racing off the Barrington claim, and I’ll give him a slight nod in a race where there are several possibilities. (2) HIGH FLYIN JAMIE continues to fly high, and he is an obvious contender drawing well and racing off the Puddy claim tonight. (9) FEAR THE DICE hung in well for 2nd to a blowout winner and he is in the mix despite drawing widest. (4) MACH JACOBS is a relentless closer that should pass some of these late and land in the bottom of the exotics. (7) UF BETTORS HANOVER should get a better trip here and come on late for a slice.
