Top Pick Stats: 176/534 (-$194.70) Best Bets: 19/48 (-$22.80); Spot Plays: 9/49 (-$52.50) Best Bet: GRIT N GRACE (Race 3) Spot Play: SAULSBROOK OLYMPIA (Race 10) Early Pick-5: 2,7/5,6/5/1,2,3,4,6,7/4   $4.80 Late Pick-5: 1,5,7/1,3,6/1,4,6/6/6   $5.40 Race 1: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: NW 1 RACE OR $8,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES. (7) EVANS LEGACY continues to improve with each start behind the gate. He was a fine fourth last time against what I thought was a tougher bunch. If he can step forward again, he should be right there at the wire. (2) SOLAR VOLTAGE is another who is improving and showed decent punch in the late stages after getting away poorly. He should be much closer to the pace tonight and have a chance to shoot by late. (3) OVER BET was a solid winner in his second morning prep. The well-bred son of Bettors Delight can step forward on debut for top connections. (5) DEALERS CALL has yet to be put in play, but keeps improving in the speed department. He can close for a share. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: NW $2,500 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $9,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $20,000. (6) ALL GAS NO BRAKES takes a significant drop in class that is hard to overlook. He should be setting the pace and be tough to catch. (5) WONDROUS BLUE CHIP was well supported at the windows after his qualifier, but made another break at the start. He can contend if he minds his manners. Expect him to take support again. (4) HEAD OF THE CLASS made a solid recovery after getting steppy and away towards the back. He has the ability to be a contender, but needs to put it all together. (1) MY HOLY MOLEY has been a consistent trotter of late and should get away in decent order from the rail. He can get a share tonight. Race 3: FILLIES & MARES, NW $15,500 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $25,500 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: NW $115,000 LIFETIME. (5) GRIT N GRACE got away last as the even money favorite last week and tried to salvage what she could in the stretch. I think an aggressive steer has to come tonight. I’ll give her the nod to rebound. (7) ABSOLUTION was moving extremely well late as she so often does, and finished a respectable third at the top level. I think she makes her presence felt again. (1) ANGOSTURA HANOVER is rounding into winning form and is another logical contender in this race. She may have to do the dirty work first over, however. (3) GLENBORO’s form is ever so slightly tailing off, but that doesn’t mean she can’t sit an inside trip and grab a slice, as she is often expected to do. Race 4: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER NW $15,000 (ON SIRED $19,000) LIFETIME. AE: 3 YEAR OLDS NW $100 LAST 4 STARTS. (6) STONE SAWYER is in sharp form right now, and is close to having three straight wins coming into tonight. J-Mac was listed on four horses for this race, so his choice looms. (7) SHOWMETHEMONEY DEO produced a sharp back half rally after trailing fast fractions to just get up for the win on debut. Hard to top an effort like that right away. (1) LAYDEE FREIGHT has an excellent turn of foot in the late stages, and could have the ability to swoop the field if she gets the right setup. (4) PARKAVENUEJANET has disappointed in two straight efforts after showing some potential early in August. I’ll slot her underneath as she tries to build her form back. Race 5: CHAMPLAIN STAKES: (GR 3). 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES. STARTING FEE: $1,500 CDN ($1,150 USD). (4) NAUGHTY DELIGHT was able to get up in the final strides last week in the lone Gold event on the card. If she isn’t too far back, I think she can repeat. (3) VENUS N SERENA makes her second start on Lasix after a fourth place finish. She will need to class up, but I think she has the speed to add value to exotics if she gets a setup. (10) DAYA has had an excellent start to her career, with four wins in just six starts. Despite the wide draw, I think she will be on the move early and put in a good spot to perform if she is good enough on the night. (6) ADINA HANOVER has disappointed a few times already in her short career, and looked outclassed in the Eternal Camnation. She can grab a share tonight. Race 6: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 RACES OR $50,000 (OS $80,750) LIFETIME. (7) ALL MY WISHES got the job done and held off rivals after getting to the lead. I think she will get some respect if she is able to clear to the lead this week, and I’ll give her the nod to repeat. (1) SIMPLY THE BEST finished a strong second behind All My Wishes at Rideau. Despite the quick times that she has paced here in the past, she hasn’t strung wins together. I think she puts together another strong performance. (5) ROCKS SHADOW was a good third in her latest, and finds a group that she could pounce on if the Grassroots types falter on the lead. (3) SUPERIOR DELIGHT rebounded and got the job done as the odds on favorite last time. She has shown some vulnerabilities recently, and I don’t think she gets the easiest trip tonight. Race 7: SIMCOE: (GR 3). 3 YEAR OLD FILLIES.STARTING FEE: $1,500 CDN ($1,150 USD). (6) OUTTATHISWORLD DEO was gigantic two starts ago, and backed it up last week with the upset win after taking air on the outside on the smaller track. Those last two starts have been excellent, and if that form continues, she should have a big chance again. (1) CALL YOU UP has had a hard time putting it all together, but was a gutsy winner in Lexington in what was the second start for the new barn. That win could be a confidence booster for tonight, and she should add significant value to exotics. (3) PERFECTLY CHIC was a very good second behind Outtathisworld Deo last week, and has been extremely consistent against tough competition. It would be no surprise if she got the job done tonight. (9) ALWAYS DAWN was a solid third in the Stallion Series at The Meadows. She has been racing well at Mohawk in recent efforts despite just one win recently, and can work out a trip from this post. Race 8: FILLIES & MARES, NW $2,500 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $9,050 LAST 8 STARTS. (W/O $10,000 LAST 8 STARTS N/E). AE: OPT. CLM. $20,000. (4) ALWAYS B MERRY has been producing strong late rallies from off the pace, which suits McClure’s style perfectly. These two could team up for a sharp effort at a square price when shipping in. (6) GIMMIE A CORONA was stuck sprinting from mid-pack against heavy favorite Yoda Queen. She has been good since the claim. (1) KIERA SEELSTER is extremely hit and miss and is currently in an “every other start” pattern. If you believe in that, it would be the week for her to win again. I think she may have too much to do if others move early. (5) BETTERNOTMACHME was a good second behind the aforementioned Yoda Queen, but is a mare who I think could be outsprinted when the time calls for it. I’ll slot her underneath. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 9: FILLIES & MARES OPEN. (MILTON PREP). (6) IN THE SPOTLIGHT N could be first to the lead, and in a race that is billed as a prep for the Milton, she could be completely left alone and able to rate and sprint best of all. (3) MY GIRL EJ just hasn’t been the same after her dominant season at three, but has been pacing tough trips against the top two Open mares in the sport, Sylvia Hanover and Twin B Joe Fresh. We could see a resurgence here. I’m not sure where I’m supposed to put (1) SYLVIA HANOVER, but as a handicapper and gambler, it certainly won’t be on top. The driver buzz has been allowed to simmer enough by this point to where I don’t think she will be as heavily bet, but as the likely odds on choice, I’ll play against. (5) KOBES GIGI has been speedy in limited starts this season, and is the horse who could benefit most from a prep race with the big money coming up. Race 10: FILLIES & MARES, NW $9,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $18,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $50,000. AE: NW 5 RACES OR $86,000 LIFETIME. (6) SAULSBROOK OLYMPIA comes off a solid effort from the pocket to just get up for the win. I could see her getting a similar trip tonight and repeating. (3) LANESIDE INCONTROL has been hopping around the class ladder in recent weeks, but shows that she belongs at most levels. She could be forgotten about here, especially if McNair chooses to drive the Rick Zeron trainee in this spot. (7) WESTERN WISH has strung together three quality efforts with JR Plante in the bike. They have made a great team, with the classy mare showing she still has some versatility in her. (5) WICKEDPACE is in a tough spot against older mares, but was a decent fourth against those types just two starts ago. I’ll use her underneath. (9) MADRID A could end up being McNair’s choice, and may be guns blazing off the car. As a potential underlay, I’ll use her to round out tonight’s Hi-5.
