Race 1: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS CONSOLATION: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS **Gtd. $75,000 Pick 5**
These Grassroots consos historically are good races to go price shopping and I’ll take a stab with (4) THE GOVERNOR in the opener here. This colt has been chasing streaking Cousin Halifax who would be 1 to 9 in this field. Probable favorite (3) CAPTAIN SUZUKI has the best recent form and fastest final times and I imagine McNair will look to send him right down the road tonight; using. (2) GRAVENHURST adds Lasix tonight and he is good enough to contend for the win here if he stays flat tonight. He is the third one that I’ll use in the Pick 5. (6) LMC LITTLE CHIPS got a tightener in for this start, and he can land in the bottom of the exotics.

Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS CONSOLATION: 3 YEAR OLD FILLIES
(1) MAKE OUT WITH ME broke last week, but his previous start in a Grassroots race was excellent and if she can recapture that form tonight, she will have a big shot here. (6) FANCY LETTERING is fast enough to win here, and Roy will likely blast with her and try to control the race from the outset. She will likely be the one to catch. (5) THIRD TIME LUCKY kicked in 26 and change in three straight starts and that strong late speed should play well in this short field. She is the other one that I’ll use in the Pick 5. (3) ALWAYS A CATCH has been racing well in $20K conditioned claimers but this is a tougher spot. I’ll use her underneath.
Race 3: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS CONSOLATION: 3 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS
(6) SLAYIN THE DAY AWAY looks to take his 8th win of the year here, and he should get an aggressive steer in this consolation. I see him leading his five rivals on a merry chase; top call. (1) NORTHERNCHANCELLOR fits well in this spot, and he is the logical alternative to the choice. He should be passing many of these late. (4) MARKET BANKER has a good late kick on his best day, and he should be in the exotics mix tonight if he stays flat. (2) GEORGEOFTHEJUNGLE will likely sit a trip racing near the front and stick around for a share.
Race 4: F&M NW $4,000 L5 or $10,500 L8 AE: OPT CLM $30,000. AE: N/A $1,630 P/S IN 2024 (MIN 10 STARTS) - Pick 4
(9) SPORTS DUCHESS had no shot racing against tougher from post 10 last week. She fits much better here, and she gets the nod despite drawing wide. (3) GIMMIE A CORONA produced a nice late kick last week, and she has had some success at this track in the past. She is worth a look for early multi-race tickets. (2) THE TURNING POINT comes off a game win at Grand River and her recent sub-28 late speed on the B tracks makes her a contender here and another possibility for early Pick 4 and Pick 5 tickets. (7) FATED FIRE hasn’t missed the top 4 in a while, and she likely won’t take much action here; price look for the exotics.
Race 5: F&M NW $9,650 L5 or NW $18,950 L 10 AE: OPT CLM $50,000. AE: N/A $1,715 P/S IN 2024
(3) ONE LAST WISH kicked in 25 1/5 after missing time due to lameness now she drops and there are no Dabarndawgswatchings in this field. She will be a single for me on the class drop and returning to a 7-day rotation. (10) GLENBORO is the other dropper in here and she will likely get involved early from the widest post; Exacta factor. (1) LEE LOO raced well in defeat in a fast race last week. She should be in the exotics mix here. (4) CHELSIS CHOICE got hot at the right time in the Pop Up series but this is tougher. I’ll use her on the bottom in this spot.
Race 6: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS CONSOLATION: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES - Pick 5
(3) WINDSUN CHARLOTTE paced a 27-flat uncovered third 1/4 last time and stayed game to the wire. She looks best of the six in here and she gets top billing. (6) NIGHT DANCER will likely get placed closer to the front tonight and that gives her a good chance in this consolation. She is the second one that I’ll use on multi-race tickets. (2) SUGAR PIE HONEY is another that will likely get better position in this spot. She should be part of the exotics. (1) ALL MY WISHES can sit another inside trip here and take a small slice.
Race 7: 4YO and younger NW1 or $8,500 LT
In a wide-open race to end the early Pick 4, I’ll take a price stab with (6) MINOTAUR, who gets post relief tonight. (10) BETTOR BE EARLY’s recent form is okay, and he gets McNair for the first time here which is often a potent angle; price look for the multis. (4) LONGSHOT PANIC recovered well from an early break last week to get 3rd. He can contend here if he stays flat. (5) ZEBS KRAFTY will likely get over bet here based on his final time chasing Grassroots horses. I’ll fade him.
Race 8: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS CONSOLATION: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES - Pick 5
(5) GREEN GLIDER has the best recent races in this field, and I imagine that Henry will provide and aggressive steer in this consolation; top call. (9) RESOLVE INDEED has improved as the season has progressed and she is another that will likely get sent forward leaving the gate. I could see her tripping out racing close to the lead and getting the job done; using. (4) MARIE H was 2nd to the choice at this track three starts back and she can crack the exotics at a price tonight. (7) BRIGHT GREEN has had some recent gait issues, but she is capable of landing in the Tri or Super if she stays flat.
Race 9: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS CONSOLATION: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS - Pick 4
(1) THAI TOUR raced well with McNair in the bike here two starts back and he gets that teamster back for this consolation. I think he gets an aggressive steer and gets the job done. (3) BELMONT BLAZER comes in off three solid Grassroots efforts, and he is the obvious one to fear here. I could see (6) BOYD BAY being better here after failing at 2 to 5 against maidens as he returns quicker this time; using underneath. (8) LMC PEANUTS WATCHN comes in off a good effort at Grand River but from the widest post a small share is probably his ceiling tonight.
Race 10: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS CONSOLATION: 3 YEAR OLD FILLIES
Tough race here; I’m going to take a price stab with (7) ALL OUT MARILYN who just beat a conditioned field of older trotters of mixed gender in Sarnia. (9) EXCITING MIA just trotted a 55 1/5 back 1/2, so she is obviously sharp. My fear is that she will get into enough road trouble to get her beat. I wouldn’t take a short price here. (3) ITDONTMATTERTOME, winner of three of her last five, is another in with a shot in a race with no standout. (4) RESOLUTE LADY was good winning two starts back then she broke stride. She can get a decent share here if she stays flat.

Race 11: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES GRASSROOTS CONSOLATION: 3 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS
(6) FOUR BY FOUR qualified well for this chasing fast Powertrain around the track and I’ll give him the nod to take this consolation. (7) WATCHING SUNSET is a good fit here and he should get involved early in the race; using. (1) BET THE BB is sneaky in here because of his good late speed. The smaller field gives him a chance; price look for the multis. (2) WHY WOULDNT YA is a morning line favorite that holds no clear advantage on paper, and I’ll play to beat him here.
Race 12: Claiming $20,000 FOR NW $44,750 LT AE: NW $1,000 LAST 5 STARTS
(4) ALADDIN DU LAC was the first leader last week then found himself in 5th at the ¾ pole after taking a shuffle due to leader changes. He rallied wide to get 3rd and he gets top billing here in a spot where he figures to get a better trip. (5) OLAF DU LAC raced well to finish slightly ahead of the choice in the same race and he should be the main threat here; using. (2) KANSAS PANIC raced better last week in a fast race and McNair will give him a chance on the engine here, I would think. I prefer to use him underneath, however. (6) FRIAR VOLTAIRE regularly finishes on the edges and that makes him a good one to use underneath starting from the best post tonight. (9) BAGA CASH paced a 55 1/5 back 1/2 last week. He could pass enough of these late in the mile to get a check.
