Top Pick Stats: 198/608 (-$236.20) Best Bets: 23/55 (-$6.30); Spot Plays: 10/56 (-$47.10) Best Bet: OUT OF ICE (Race 2) Spot Play: ROCKS SHADOW (Race 8) Early Pick-5: 4,5,6/6/1/1,2,7/7,9   $3.60 Late Pick-5: 2,4,6/1,5,7/5/3/3,5   $3.60 Race 1: FILLIES & MARES, NW $6,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $12,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: N/A $2,080 P/S IN 2024-25. (6) CHARMBO STORMY gets a drop in class which could prove to push her over the top after two tightener-type efforts against tougher company. She should be ready to roll tonight if Jamieson wants to let her loose. (4) SAULSBROOK OLYMPIA raced off the pace when returning to Mohawk and was moving well when chasing leaders. She may give herself more work than she needs to if gapped off cover again, but can be dangerous if she stays latched onto a helmet. (5) SHOOT THE WHISKEY has a similar look to Charmbo Stormy, but with a bit more back class. I think she is less likely to blast out and try to pace them off their feet. [DRF HARNESS: Get Harness Eye PPs for this card] Race 2: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 5. 3 YEAR OLD PACING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD). (6) OUT OF ICE was in a tough spot when sitting fourth. He either had to make another move and come first over, or do what ended up happening, which is get shuffled and look for room. Jamieson did an excellent job finding space, and he was moving forward late, but ran out of time. Look for him to blast, get out of trouble, and rebound nicely. (2) SOS SPORTS BET is a horse you have to respect, considering he keeps beating these horses. He got picked off last week, but only by a nose. He should be forward as well. (3) BLUE BAR makes his second start on Lasix after only losing by three lengths against Allstar Maniac. He could step forward, and should be considered on exotics at a price. Race 3: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES: NW 1 RACE OR $13,000 LIFETIME. WITH  ALLOWANCES. (1) ALL STAR LADY has been getting some checks in lower level stakes in New York, but should find this spot to her liking in her Mohawk return. Her first qualifier here was excellent, and the fourth place finish in her debut was behind some tough fillies like TH Check Me Out. (2) VENUS N SERENA is a filly I’ve hyped up in the past, but she just hasn’t been up to par with the stakes fillies in Canada. Which is nothing to hang one’s head about, to be fair. The drop back to condition company should help. (3) KOSMIC KRISP paced home very well in her only other Mohawk start, even if she wasn’t making up much ground. If she gets away close enough, she could make some noise in the stretch. Race 4: CHAMPLAIN STAKES: (GR 3). 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES. STARTING FEE: $1,500 CDN($1,000 IF DIV). $1,150 USD ($775 IF DIV). (7) DENARIUS has posted two sharp efforts to start her career and now ships up for top connections. She is likely going to take plenty of support at the windows, and I think for good reason. (2) ONE BELLE faced plenty of pressure in the Peaceful Way. She tucked in nicely after leaving out, but was unable to sustain her second move and packed it in at the top of the stretch. We’ll see how she rebounds after a few weeks off. (1) BINGO NIGHT has been the most consistent in stakes competition and can get into the race with any trip. She has not missed the board yet. Race 5: NW $3,600 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $7,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $20,000. (9) GOOBER SMACK is a horse I’ve liked in the past, and I think he has enough speed to take down a field like this, but will need to be given a good trip from post nine. If he converts, he could blow up this Pick-5. (7) KEVIN ANTHONY has the back class, and gets another sizable drop. If he is put in play, he should have a major chance to drop and pop. (1) PESO HANOVER set fractions that were way too fast for himself and paid for it late. He could rebound tonight if he races off a helmet. Race 6: ELEGANTIMAGE ELIGIBLES. (3 YEAR OLD FILLY TROT) (4) LASTING DREAM was beaten fairly in the Simcoe after clearing to the front. She has plenty of early speed and could get all of the front end respect in a prep. (6) R DUTCHESS has beaten most of this field on the square in her last two starts, but how hard will she be used? They will want to keep her sharp, I’m sure, and she could be the one getting all of the respect up top. (2) ZETTE ATHENA made a break in her latest after a sharp second behind R Dutchess. Look for her to work from off the pace tonight. Race 7: CHAMPLAIN STAKES: (GR 3). 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES. STARTING FEE: $1,500 CDN($1,000 IF DIV). $1,150 USD ($775 IF DIV). (1) ILL HAVE THE RED was a sharp winner on debut in a division of the Tompkins-Geers at Mohawk, and was finding success stateside until two straight miscues took her out of races. I would look for her to rebound at a track that she appears to love. (5) SHIMMERING HANOVER was a solid third in the Peaceful Way Final after blasting to the front and taking pressure down the backstretch from One Belle. She is likely to be forwardly placed again. (7) BARBARA MAY came up short at Grand River last week to a couple of tough fillies. McNair should be on the move early. Race 8: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 RACES OR $50,000 (OS $91,500) LIFETIME. (5) ROCKS SHADOW actually used some gate speed last week, and is another who made two early moves. She angled wide in the stretch to avoid being trapped inside, but came up less than a length short. That is the best she has looked in my opinion. (7) ETERNAL DELIGHT is the other that McNair is listed on, and another who deserves respect after an excellent effort last week. (3) LANESIDE INCONTROL was a sharp second in an effort where she made two early moves. She left out, and then was fed racetrack to clear to the front. This is an easier spot, and she looms as another contender. Race 9: PREFERRED. (3) DRAWN IMPRESSION was moving best of all in the stretch, and that was after flipping wide off what proved to be dull cover. She has all the tools to take down the boys at this top level. (5) OSCEOLA and McNair at the Preferred level have been a lethal combo of late, and when you add in last week’s perfect trip, it makes them even tougher. Look for him to be involved early and given every chance again. (6) GAINES HANOVER has been a Preferred contender many times in the past, but his off the pace style leaves him susceptible. If he finds a live helmet, he could be moving best of all late. [DRF HARNESS: Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter] Race 10: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 5. 3 YEAR OLD PACING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD). (3) TIP OF TIME races best when sitting close, and doesn’t have to deal with the upper tier at this level. Jamieson should be on the move early and look to secure him a good position. (5) LYONS FRANKY J has shown some potential this year and clearly has some ability. If put in play, he should be a factor. (7) GRIN AND WIN has put forth some big efforts this season, but has seven second place finishes to show for it. He could break through tonight with the right trip. Race 11: FILLIES & MARES, CLAIMING $20,000 FOR NW $60,000 (OS $87,750) LIFETIME. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE. (4) FIRST CAST encountered some expected traffic trouble after sitting third along the rail for much of the mile. She got out very late, but the damage was done. If she gets to the outside, she can grind her way to another win, just as she did two starts ago. (2) ARDYNE GRAYSEE has won three of her last four since the claim and held off everyone in the late stages after another front-end try. She should get plenty of support again. (1) KIERA SEELSTER was a good third after getting away well from the rail and tracking in a race that had little movement. Her late kick could have her trip out if she gets away well again.
