Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Friday 8/8

Kevin Plowcha|Aug 06, 2025
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 115/344 (-$86.80)

Best Bets: 12/30 (-$13.60); Spot Plays: 8/31 (-$20.30)

Best Bet: SWEET LOVIN LOU (Race 8)

Spot Play: BARB LAHEY (Race 10)

Early Pick 5: 8,10/2,8/2,6/6,7/6,8 $6.40

Late Pick 5: 2,5,6/3,9/8/5,6/4 $2.40

Race 1: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 3. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).

(8) BEAU KNIGHT looked strong in his July 25 morning prep and had a tough trip in his latest. He is reunited with the top driver and can rebound. (10) I DRINK SHE DRIVES was a strong second when racing here two back and should be at least floated out from the wide draw. He was rounding into winning form before the miscue. (4) SENDI KA was unable to pick up a check in any of his three starts. The drop from Gold company helps. (1) TROUBLE WITH NAMES was a solid winner in his only qualifier. Improvement is expected despite the rail draw.

Race 2: 2 YEAR OLD FILLIES: NW 1 RACE OR $8,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(2) UNPLUGGED has been grinding out checks in stakes competition in New York. She should step right back in and produce a strong effort. (8) SANGRIA SUMMER showed some late interest on debut behind a strong favorite. The wide draw will elevate her price. (5) MONTE AMORE was making up ground in the late stages. She draws better and should improve with more experience. (7) LDS GINA gives cause for concern as she hasn’t raced in over a month. I’ll use her underneath tonight.

Race 3: FILLIES & MARES PREFERRED.

(2) GRIT N GRACE is getting back to top form and has capitalized off close trips when pressure is applied. (6) STYLE FOR A MILE could also capitalize on the early speed duel. Her recent miscues should raise her value. (5) CAVIAR N CRACKERS has been getting easy trips and could get caught napping this week. (7) CHANTILLY puts her perfect record on the line. It’s awesome that she gets a chance against these types, but I think she comes up short.

Race 4: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 3. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).

(7) HOT COUNTRY has been trotting winning miles, and finds a weaker Grassroots group this week. Look for him to break through. (6) BOB FROM HOCKEY looms as a contender if he stays flat. His qualifier was a step in the right direction. (4) ANIBAL DUHARAS stepped forward on debut for solid connections. He can hit the board again. (1) TOTALLY ICONIC has been left chasing so far but has battled for checks.

Race 5: FILLIES & MARES, NW $15,000 LAST 5 STARTS. AE: NW $100,000 LIFETIME. AE: NW $42,000 IN 2025.

(6) A FEW CHOICE WORDS was relegated to the pocket after Western Wish was blasted from the rail, and her race was pretty much over from there. Look for her to rebound this week. (8) BLUEMEA KISS has vaulted herself into a contending spot at this level. Her last month has been excellent. I’m late to the party on (1) ABSOLUTION but her last two efforts have been too good to ignore. She will get pace to chase again. (2) ONE LAST WISH got a losing trip with a different pilot last week. If Roy goes her way, she can put a better effort together.

Race 6: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: NW 1 RACE OR $8,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(5) CALLSIGN ROOSTER makes his Mohawk debut after a perfect start to the career at Hippodrome 3R. I’ll take a shot with this Ian Moore trainee. (6) ILLICIT BEHAVIOR was a strong second in his latest. He is improving with each start. (2) TF HIGH VOLTAGE was flying in the late stages. A pace setup could get him a win. (3) LOU WHO has shown decent late speed but will need to be put into the race.

Race 7: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 3. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).

(3) NOTATTHETABLCARLOS comes off a solid debut performance and should be charging at leaders late if close enough. (9) TOSS OF THE DICE comes off two front-end scores but will need more late if pressured from this post. (5) THE CONQUEROR was taking steps forward but made a break last time. He gets away from the rail which should help. (4) HANDNTHECOOKIEJAR has the speed, but needs to mind his manners. Look for equipment changes.

Race 8: DREAM MAKER FINAL: 2 YEAR OLD OPEN PACE.

(8) SWEET LOVIN LOU destroyed his rivals in his only try in this stakes series. Despite the draw, he is the one to beat. (3) STINGRAY DEO paced a strong mile in defeat. He could capitalize on a hotter pace. (4) DAD got the jump on Stingray Deo and got the job done. He should be the second choice. (6) CORONA SEELSTER is a step below these but has been grinding out checks.

Race 9: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: NW 1 RACE OR $8,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(6) ARTILLERY SEELSTER is another Hippodrome shipper who has the chance to drop at least a few seconds off his card. (5) BARRACUDA HANOVER could not outsprint rivals after a speed try. This is a weaker bunch that he can get the jump on. (2) ODDS ON BULLFROG could show much more tonight with a closer trip. He has been too far back in both starts. (1) MAJOR MONEY is an improving colt that could get a bigger piece with the right trip.

Race 10: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 RACES OR $30,750 LIFETIME. AE: 3 YR OLD N/A $1,310 P/S IN 2025.

(4) BARB LAHEY has had tough trips as of late. Expect a speed try with an improved post. (7) NICE BUNS could finally find her winning spot if the front end speed doesn’t carry. However, it has been doing that a lot lately. (8) PARKAVENUEJANET tried two moves in her latest Mohawk start, but it went poorly. Lasix could help, but the draw doesn’t. (3) TOPVILLE CHECKMEIN has been grinding out checks from off the pace. Look for her to do it again. (5) SARA B DELIGHT got her first win last week and leaves from a perfect post tonight. She could be activated early and hold on to round out the Hi-5.
