Spot Play: CANT TURN YOU DOWN (Race 1)
Early Pick-5: 7/5,6/6,9/2,6,10/5 $2.40
Late Pick-5: 5/3,6/6/4,6/2,3 $1.60
Race 1: FILLIES & MARES, 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $10,500 OR LESS 2 RACES) OR $10,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.
(7) CANT TURN YOU DOWN was ready to show us more when debuting at the big track but lacked room in the stretch. She was itching to go when a lane materialized. (2) SHOW MUST GO ON flashed potential to start the month of June before ripping off some quality efforts at the B tracks. I think she shows us even more tonight. (1) PULL YOUR SOCKS UP has done little wrong so far and is likely to show more speed around the bigger track. How much? That remains to be seen.

Race 2: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 RACES OR $30,000 (OS $45,500) LIFETIME.
(5) ARTISTIC DELIGHT effortlessly swooped to the front last week and drew away with minimal urging. Hard to ignore an effort like that. (6) ON FLEEK has been more consistent than others as of late and will probably be forward. That trip should secure her another good finish. (3) KISSEDBYASTRANGER hasn’t broken through at this level yet but has secured a number of finishes in the money.
Race 3: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: NW 1 RACE OR $10,500 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.
(9) BILLY HILL looks like a colt with some potential. I liked how he paced through the line in his second qualifier, and the post should allow his price to float up. (6) KERPLUNK tried a second move around the final turn, but that proved costly when everyone else started to sprint. He should be better off tonight. (2) EL CUCUY raced well on debut but couldn’t quite catch the winner. I think he should continue to progress.
Race 4: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 1. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).
(6) SPEEDY MICHAEL looks ready to roll after that second qualifier. I’ll hope for a somewhat aggressive steer from a coveted post. (10) BALIUS has to contend with the outside post but showed enough speed on both ends of his second qualifier to make me think he can overcome it. (2) KING OF THE SOUTH has an experience edge over the top two and could capitalize if they can’t sustain their likely front-end bids.
Race 5: TOMPKINS-GEERS: 2 YEAR OLD FILLY PACE. STARTING FEE: $500 USD $675 CDN.
(5) ROCKIN JADE DEO was forced to swing way wide in the stretch and I thought closed nicely despite losing all that ground. I think she shows us more. (7) BOARDWALK BABE has a nice reference point given she beat Twin B Mayreau who came back on debut to upset in a Gold. We’ll see if she can sustain her speed. (8) IM SWEET ON LOU was a logical favorite in a reduced field. She could have more to show us as well.
Race 6: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 1. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).
(5) CLARKY would have probably won his debut if he didn’t break. Obviously, we’ll never know, but a lot of people are going to back Erinwood Triton a few races later, and that’s who he was going to beat. (9) KINGS CROWN N COKE should do okay if he minds his manners. I liked what he showed after his miscue two back and his qualifier flashed similar intrigue. (7) MAKING GREEN has just the one qualifier to reference, but it was okay. I can see him doing well against these and getting a piece.
Race 7: TOMPKINS-GEERS: 2 YEAR OLD COLT & GELDING PACE. STARTING FEE: $500 USD $675 CDN.
(3) MASCARPONE and (6) SHALOM HANOVER have both flashed similar speed and ability for Dr Ian Moore. I would expect both to be put in play and right there at the wire, but I’ll give the edge to the former. (1) NINELEVEN HANOVER sprinted well on debut and just missed. A similar kick should see him with a chance to hit the ticket.
Race 8: 2 YEAR OLD COLTS & GELDINGS: NW 1 RACE OR $10,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.
(6) THE ITALIAN JOB looks like another Rick Zeron trainee that should shine on debut. He has done nothing wrong in either qualifier. (2) ACCESS NOW is a well-bred horse for top connections that should continue to improve. I expect him to be in the mix. (1) DANZ CARD handled the rail in his second qualifier which is a positive. He has shown decent speed on the end of it which could line him up for a piece.
Race 9: FILLIES & MARES OPEN.
(4) ULTIMATE DESBI N has stamped herself as an Open mare in just four starts. She held off two rivals who were charging at her late and draws well again. (6) LETS N JOY N was forced to make a second move earlier than she wanted, which was likely why she was just even at the wire. Last week aside, she has been such a quality mare this year. (8) GRIT N GRACE was trapped in the pocket when entering the stretch and never found room. I get that, but now you’re telling me she’s going to blast from the outside and trip out against these? Hard pass.

Race 10: ONTARIO SIRES STAKES: GRASSROOTS LEG 1. 2 YEAR OLD TROTTING COLTS & GELDINGS. STARTING FEE $400 CDN ($315 USD).
(3) ERINWOOD TRITON, regardless of whether Clarky beat him or not, raced well on debut and should have plenty to offer against this field. (2) GREAT WHITE NORTH was trotting hard on the end of his debut mile and could easily charge past his rivals. (5) R NORTHERN STAR was well backed on debut but made a miscue. He can get a piece if he minds his manners.
Race 11: NW $1,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR $6,800 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT.CLM.$12,500.
(1) CROWN MONARCH is second back after a sure-fire tightener last week. I’ll give him the nod and expect him to improve. (2) FRENCHY HANOVER was better last week and seems to shine when he can slowly grind into contention. That shouldn’t stop him here. (3) JGS PAL gets a steep drop in class and finally draws a decent post. He hasn’t had the best manners of late, though, and could be an underlay in this spot.
