Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Friday 6/12

Garnet Barnsdale|Jun 10, 2020
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Meet Stats: 11/41: $84.40 (+ $2.40)
Best Bets: 3/4: $11.40 (+ $3.40)
Spot Plays: 2/4: $18.40 (+ $10.40)
Best Bet: BOADICEA (9TH)
Spot Play: SMILING DIALING (2ND)
Early Pick 5: 3,5,6,8/8/1,2,5,8/5/2,5,6,10 = $12.80
Late Pick 5: 5,8,10/5/7,8/5/2,4,6,7 = $4.80
Early Pick 4: 5/2,5,6,10/5,8,10/5 = $12
Late Pick 4: 7,8/5/2,4,6,7/1,3,5,7,8 = $40

Race 1: NW4 (F&M5) or $40,000 (F&M $50,000) LT **GTD $75,000 Pick 5**

This race will likely come down to one of three nice sophomores making their 2020 debuts. I'll side with (5) HORSE TRADER who is likely to be pointed to the front early. (3) WINE RACK HANOVER and (6) BLUE CUPERTINO are also both capable and it's not easy to determine intent here because all three have much bigger events in their sights this summer. I'm using the entire troika in this early Pick 5. (8) WINGS OF SPEED is sent out by the hottest barn on the ground and he could offer the best value of the bunch.

Race 2: F&M 4YO and Younger NW 1 or $7,000 LT

(8) SMILING DIALING was put in an impossible spot early last week and it got worse for her when the leader crawled to the 1/2 in 58 3/5. Her closing 1/2 of 54 3/5 should have her plenty tight for this and she can make amends despite drawing wide again. (1) REGIL ELECTRON kicked home well last week and she should be a factor again here. (4) ZEPHYR SEELSTER also had a start and she seems to be in line for another board finish here. (3) BIG MYRTLE is worth a look off a nice qualifying win, but I prefer to use her underneath in this debut.

Race 3: NW $10,000 L5 or $20,000 L10 or NW 5LT AE: NW $65,000 LT or OPT CLM $25,000

(8) BETCHA BABY raced first up vs. tougher and she looks solid vs. these. An outer post should boost her price, too. (2) PARISIAN BLUE CHIP should be sharper and likely work out a better trip this week; using. (5) KARMA SEELSTER is likely capable at this level but as a sophomore facing elders and with some stakes surely on her schedule, I'm not sure I'd take a short price here. (1) CIRCLE THE PAIGE should get a better start here and she is another possibility in a contentious dash.

Race 4: NW $10,000 L5 or $20,000 L10 or NW 5LT AE: NW $65,000 LT or OPT CLM $25,000 - Pick 4

(5) LADY ROCKNROLLA A was in a tough spot last week but she kept coming. She drops and she should pop here as the likely chalk. (3) ROLL WITH SPARKY was a decent third in fast time last week but she could get over bet off that race. Check out how many slices she has taken in the past two seasons vs. only two wins. (6) NAUGHTY LADY B raced OK following a tough winner and she should be in the mix for a share here. (7) KYLIE SEELSTER has some decent efforts showing on her card at this level and she can land in this Super.

Race 5: F&M 4YO and Younger NW2 or $30,000 LT

(6) NEED UR OPINION was live last week but the race shape went completely against her. She picks up James Macdonald here and she could be a good value play on this card. (2) SEX APPEAL won the race that the choice exits. She got it all her own way that night and while she is an obvious contender, she may not enjoy the same soft trip tonight. (5) BEACH SPORTS was sharp, but the winner couldn't be caught. She is another in with a good chance here. (10) ODDS ON VERO BEACH is another winner that enjoyed a great trip that I will try to beat this week.

Race 6: F&M NW3 or $53,000 LT - Pick 5

(8) SASKATOON came ready for action last week and she should be tough here right back. (5) QUESO RELLENO chased a strong winner home and she should be the main danger here. (10) BETALADY is certainly fast enough for these but starting from the second tier in her first start of what should be a stakes-laden campaign makes it a guessing game with her. (9) BACK IN THE GAME should be passing rivals late again. Consider her for the bottom of the Tri and Super.

Race 7: F&M NW $16,000 L5 or $28,000 L10 or $155,000 LT AE: NW $7,000 L4

(5) SHOWER PLAY couldn't get any flow to move in front of her when chasing the toughest mares on the grounds. This is an easier spot and I'll stick with her. (2) MAJOR LEAGUE N was given a great drive to win last week but she earned the victory doing most of the heavy lifting. I'm not sure that she stacks up with Shower Play if that mare brings her best race. (4) CRACKLIN ROSIE gets her nose on the gate this week and she can enter contention for a share. (1) BALFAST N was good last week but this is much tougher; using on the bottom.

Race 8: Starters for $15,000 Claiming or Less in One of Last 3 Starts - Pick 4

(7) SOMBRE was used up early against tougher and that should set him up nicely as he faces easier here; top call. (8) A J DESTINY should get sent forward leaving the gate by Henry; using. (6) P L MOLLY fits well vs. these types and she usually contends for a share; consider for Tri bets. (1) TALBOTCREEK SUZIE's sharp gate speed should have her in contention for a share throughout.

Race 9: Fillies and Mares Preferred

(5) BOADICEA was simply dominant last week and unless someone decides to really sting her early, she is very likely to repeat here. (7) SO MUCH MORE figures to be rallying best again to round out the Exacta. (2) KENDALL SEELSTER was sharp in victory, but she steps into the tiger's den here and likely finishes on the edges. (8) SUNNY DEE can blast for position and last for a piece.

Race 10: F&M NW $16,000 L5 or $28,000 L10 or NW $155,000 LT AE: NW $7,000 L4

(6) RECLAMATION was in a tough spot last week, trying to rally uncovered into a sub-27 final 1/4. Facing easier here, we should get a quicker start and she gets top billing. (2) SWEET LUCY LOU closed nicely from an impossible spot and she is clearly sharp. She merits a long look here. (4) SWIFT ALLY was game in defeat in a quick mile. She is yet another possibility for late multi-race tickets. (7) SO LONG DARLING should enter contention on the class drop, but I prefer to use her underneath in this spot.

Race 11 – Starters for $12,000 Claiming of less in one of Last 3

In what looks like a wide-open finale, I'll take a stab with (3) LIVELY ROCKET, who was hot out west in March and attracts McClure who has been off to a good start since resuming. (8) MISS ROCKADALI goes for Bako off the claim which has been a potent angle in the past and she should be a threat right from the outset. (7) E R RHONDA already has a start and a win and McNair knows her well. Look for her late. (5) JANS LEGACY is another mare who has already recorded a B track win. Toss her on High-5 tickets. (1) YNOTHOS was a winner first off the claim and she’s not out of this.
