Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Friday 5/26

Garnet Barnsdale|May 24, 2023
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 224 - 695 / $1,236.80 (-$153.20)

Best Bets: 37 - 63 / $138.70 (+$12.70)

Spot Plays: 13 - 63 / $79.60 (-$46.40)

Best Bet: MOLLOP HANOVER (6TH)

Spot Play: BETTOR B SIRIUS (4TH)

Early Pick 5: 2,5/1,6,7/1,4,5/2,7,9/6,9 = $21.60

Late Pick 5: 3/2/2,5,6,7,8/3,5,6/4,6,7,8 = $12

Early Pick 4: 2,7,9/6,9/3/2 = $1.20

Late Pick 4: 2/2,5,6,7,8/3,5,6/4,6,7,8 = $12

Race 1: F&M Claiming $35,000 **Gtd. $100,000 Pick 5**

(2) COZ IM SPECIAL was really good last week, but she couldn't catch a mare that has been almost unbeatable at this level recently. This mare gets top billing here with her aforementioned rival not in this race. (5) SWEET SANDY LOU flashed speed, took a shuffle then finished with energy in that same race and she is in with a decent chance here, helped by the shorter field tonight. (7) GIRL SCOUT COOKIE closed to be only 1/2-length behind the choice, and she showily be in the exotics mix again. (1) KCS STARLITE likely sits and rallies to be in the bottom of the Tri or Super.

Race 2: F&M NW $8,000 L5

(6) TAKEYOURBREATHAWAY keeps facing tougher and she keeps winning. I'll ride with her here while she is hot. (1) GOUDAWON has faced much tougher in every 2023 start and she is an obvious contender on the drop here, but she could get over bet. (7) SETTN A PRECEDENT is very sharp right now and she will be motoring late. She is another in with a chance. (4) AMERICAN TICKET moves up off a game win. I prefer to use her underneath tonight.

Race 3: NW $4,100 L5 AE: Starters for a purse of $9,000 or less L2

(4) JACK FIRE drops for this second start back and his late kick should play much better vs. this group. (5) VILLEFRANCHE AS makes a quick return after facing tougher here on Monday night and sharp improvement from her is expected; using. Shipper (1) KEVIN ANTHONY had a good kick last week, but no one was catching Hammer Time, who inherited the front when the leader broke at the head of the lane. He is another to consider for early multi-race tickets. (7) PRINCE OF SUSSEX qualified fast enough to suggest that he will be competitive in this first local start; using underneath.

Race 4: 5YO and Younger NW1 or $7,500 LT - Pick 4

(9) BETTOR B SIRIUS is 0 for 14 but he was unlucky in defeat both two and three starts back. I'll take a shot with him here expecting a good price. (7) STEEL COWBOY will find a field he can beat soon, and this might be it. He should be the one to catch tonight. (2) TWIN B NATION comes off a solid effort when 2nd to a strong winner. He would be no surprise here. (6) BACK POCKET MIKI should close for another small share here.

Race 5: F&M 5YO and Younger NW2 or $30,000 LT

(9) FAVORITE BEACH was good last week, but there was no catching Sweet Amira who was pacing a 27 1/5 kicker to complete a 1:51 1/5 mile. This filly should be sitting on a win now. (6) ONE LAST WISH flashed speed took a shuffle, then re-rallied in the same race and she should be the one to catch here. Returnee (1) MOMENTARY CONTROL has Grand Circuit and Gold lines from last year and she finished well in her May 19th qualifier. She should be motoring late in this spot. (3) REDLANDBETHANYJEAN ships in sharp from the Maritimes and I can see her taking a slice here at a price.

Race 6: F&M 5YO and Younger winners of 2 but not more than 4 or $45,000 LT AE: 4YO and 5YO to be claimed for $50,000 - Pick 5

(3) MOLLOP HANOVER methodically chased down (1) STARLIGHT DANCER last time in a fast mile and she looks like a filly that is going to keep stringing wins together in these types of condition races. (7) BIG BIG PLANS raced okay in the SBOA stakes. She should be in the exotics mix tonight. (8) CHELSIS CHOICE can rally for a slice at a price.

Race 7: 3YO Colts and Geldings NW $5,000 LT - Pick 4

(2) CANCUN KAI is the fourth foal from his dam to make the races and the other three all won their first or second starts. His 1:51 3/5 qualifier on May 12th stamps him as the one to beat on debut. (5) BETTOR ON ICE's debut was good and he appears to be the main threat, but I wonder if he is running into a monster tonight. (8) CLOWN CAR has been finishing fast and he can close for another share here. (4) FULL HORSE is another that should be passing some rivals late; using on the bottom.

Race 8: NW $2,000 L3 AE: Starters for a purse of $5K or less L2

This is a good spot for (6) O NARUTAC PERFETTO, who raced well over an off track at Kawartha Downs last weekend now draws best and picks up Jamieson tonight. (5) ALL WRAPPED UP looked like he was on his way to an open length win last week when he jumped it off at the 3/4 pole. He will be tough in here if he stays flat; using. (8) SEVEN IRON didn't beat much in Clinton last Sunday, but he dominated and now he adds Lasix in a spot where it looks like he will make front at the start with little effort. He is in the mix here. (2) MR FRITTER finished well in his qualifier, and it looks like trainer Budd has him straightened out. He should be good for a share tonight.

Race 9: CLM HDCP $25,000 to $35,000

(5) FLYING ART A fits well dropping into this claimer, and he should get a good trip racing on or near the lead; top call. (6) UNIQUE BEACH was unlucky to get beat by a rival that rode the pylons but then he missed time due to sickness. He is an obvious contender, but I wonder if he will be short tonight. (3) ROCK AND TWIST raced well in defeat last week and he should be closing late again. He is another option for late multi-race tickets. (2) CURIOUS CORTEZ should be part of the exotics racing off the Moreau claim tonight.

Race 10: Starters for a purse of $9,000 or less L4

(6) FOREFATHER went too fast, too soon, last week perhaps being a bit too fresh coming off a layoff. I'll side with him over the rival that tripped out to beat him, (4) G A SPEED SAMMY. The latter parlayed a good London effort two starts back into a win over the choice and he could get a similar pocket trip here. (8) RESPECT OUR FLAG fits better in this spot but I wonder if he will get the trip he needs starting from a wide post. I'll use him underneath. (7) DR JOE is another dropper that tends to be trip dependent. I see him closing late for a slice. (1) HIGHLANDBEACHSBEST brings some good form in from Flamboro. He can sit a trip and land a small share.
