Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Friday 5/1

Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 220/704 (-$290.00)

Best Bets: 27/64 (-$21.70); Spot Plays: 16/66 (-$39.50)

Best Bet: SO MUCH MORE (Race 10)

Spot Play: SUNNYS GIRL (Race 3)

Early Pick-5: 6,7,9,10/4,6/5/7,9/3 $3.20

Late Pick-5: 5,8/6,10/1,4/5,6/3 $3.20

Race 1: 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 3 RACES) OR $9,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(7) FRENCH BULLDOG gets my nod in a potentially wide-open race. He appears to be improving with each start around the Mohawk oval, and the right trip can see him get the job done. (10) AMERICAN ROAD TRIP has to navigate the high draw but showed a backstretch burst that should do him some good if positioned correctly. (6) JOSES TRIPLETS should be tighter off a clear trip around the track in the Spring Series. His gate speed makes him a factor if ready to go.

Race 2: FILLIES & MARES OPEN.

(6) LETS N JOY N has quickly become the mare to beat on the grounds and has won two of her three tries at the top level. She is likely the one to catch when they turn for home. (4) ABSOLUTION has been furiously finishing against these but has been too far back. Honestly, that makes her rallies even more impressive in my opinion. She will break through eventually. (5) GRIT N GRACE looks ready to return after two sharp qualifiers. The short field should help if she pushes forward off the car.

Race 3: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 RACES OR $53,000 (OS $80,000) LIFETIME.

(5) SUNNYS GIRL made a strong first-over move last week into a softer third quarter, and I thought she sprinted well in the stretch despite fading to fourth. A better setup can see her strike at a price. (7) PIPERS LUNA was bet extremely hard last week and looked to trip out, but couldn’t quite catch TH Check Me Out. I don’t think she lost much in defeat, but she has yet to win this year. (4) NO BETTER AIR is a returning filly who I personally want to play against. I don’t think she gets an easy lead here, and could be driven a touch conservatively in the return.

Race 4: FILLIES & MARES, 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) OR $9,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(9) PEARL WASH was a filly I tried on debut, and I thought she made a good first impression when making multiple moves. This is a weaker field that she faces tonight. (7) REDLAND SAPHIRE made an eye-catching move in her seasonal debut that should translate given the kick she showed in two Mohawk tries last year. (5) UNA MOMENTA will need to step forward in her second start of the year, but if she works off a helmet, I think she will pass horses and get a piece.

Race 5: 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 3 RACES) OR $9,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(3) WINDSUN GUNNER paced home well last week when angled wide at the top of the stretch. The favorite got the jump on him that night, but an effort like that provides plenty of confidence to all involved, bettors included. (10) PANIC RAY has yet to break his maiden but has plenty of early speed to work himself into the race. He shouldn’t encounter as much traffic trouble in this field. (4) AMICABLE should improve in his second career start, though he didn’t appear to have any kind of push-button speed. I could be proven wrong by top connections, which has happened before.

Race 6: POP UP SERIES: STRTS FOR PURSE OF $10,000 OR LESS IN 2026 (WO $75,000 IN 2025-26 NE). AE: OPT. CLM. $12,500. LEG 2. AE: LEG 1 STRTS (CLM REMAIN IN FOR TAG).

(8) DOUBLE DIPPIN was a sharp winner in leg one of this series after a good steer by Borth. I would look for him to get aggressive from the outside draw. (5) THE BEAR A CUDA takes a steep drop in class compared to last week and could be forwardly placed with this good draw. I wouldn’t be surprised if he trips out. (6) JOKIC hasn’t been too inspiring in his last two efforts, but does get post relief tonight. He was put in play last week before making a break.

Race 7: FILLIES & MARES, 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW $15,000 (ON SIRED $20,000) LIFETIME.

(10) BREEZY BELLE just missed in her career debut after taking a lot of air on the outside. She is another filly who should step forward despite post ten. (6) CENTURY MONTANA raced well to hold off Breezy Belle on the front end. She has paced much better final quarters in her last two, making her a more trustworthy option. (1) JOSIES JOULES has enough kick to get herself into the race, and could end up with a major setup if the Beaton filly fires from the high draw.

Race 8: FILLIES & MARES, NW $2,500 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $5,000 LAST 8 STARTS. (W/O $12,800 LAST 8 STARTS N/E). AE: OPT. CLM. $20,000. AE: N/A $1,400 P/S IN 2025-2026.

(4) CARRERA SUNSET N gets a sharp drop that she really should take advantage of. I expect her to break the seasonal 0-for in a race that, in my opinion, sets up between two horses. (1) CHIEFS DREAM GIRL is the other dropper, though she hasn’t shown quite as much punch. If she works off a helmet from up close, I could see her getting the job done. (10) SETTN A PRECEDENT is classier than the top two, but the high draw could force her to pace too hard in the early stages and set it up for others. That said, I think she still gets a piece.

Race 9: POP UP SERIES: STRTS FOR PURSE OF $10,000 OR LESS IN 2026 (WO $75,000 IN 2025-26 NE). AE: OPT. CLM. $12,500. LEG 2. AE: LEG 1 STRTS (CLM REMAIN IN FOR TAG).

(6) GOOBER SMACK made a long, sustained move in last week’s final and took advantage of some early pacesetters that had shown vulnerabilities on the lead. He should be right there again. (5) PATRIARCH HANOVER gets some post relief after a strong second to Double Dippin who I like earlier on the card. Hard to not use him in the mix considering his early gate speed. (3) ETERNALLY HANOVER was a strong winner last week but hasn’t ever been one to repeat winning efforts like that. Though the short field gives him a better chance to do so.

Race 10: FILLIES & MARES, NW $6,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $15,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $30,000. AE: NW 4 RACES LIFETIME. AE: NW $100 IN 2026.

I’ll look for (3) SO MUCH MORE to flaunt her back class when taking another step down the ladder. She draws a much better post tonight to boost her chances. (6) MADAM X races off the claim after another effort that is in line with her last few. She has the speed on both ends of the mile, but needs the right trip. (7) LA MIKI N should be activated early this week. At least, her backers would hope so. She was showing enough ability in the class above this.

Race 11: FILLIES & MARES, 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 RACES OR $30,000 (OS $37,500) LIFETIME.

(6) SAULSBROOK ROLO gets my tepid top call after a strong second where she got picked off by the heavy favorite. She is continuing to improve with each start this season. (8) PLAYSOMETHINGSWEET has the speed on both ends of the mile to be a price factor in this spot. I think she gets ignored because her recent lines aren’t necessarily up to par with these. (5) ADINA HANOVER was much better in her second qualifier, and flashed stakes-caliber speed at times last year, but looms as an underlay prospect in tonight’s finale.
