Woodbine Mohawk Park: Ahundredollarbill conquers in Canadian Trotting Classic

Ahundreddollarbill and driver Andrew McCarthy converted a perfect cover trip to victory in capturing Saturday's C$606,500 Canadian Trotting Classic for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The sophomore by Chapter Seven scored in a career-best 1:52 mile.
Ohio champion Winning Ticket blasted off from post ten and cleared to the lead ahead of In Range into the first turn for driver David Miller. The opening quarter went on the board in 26 3/5 as 4-5 favorite Fashion Frenzie tucked in fourth ahead of Ahundreddollarbill in the process.
Winning Ticket was still well in control at the half in 55 2/5 when driver Louis-Philippe Roy pulled Fashion Frenzie to go on the offensive, towing Ahundreddollarbill in second-over position, as Fly Light struggled to keep with cover as the field sped to three-quarters.
Winning Ticket was able to fight off the favorite going past three quarters in 1:23 2/5 and headed for the stretch drive. McCarthy wasn't going to wait very long to go on the offensive, and he tipped the Tony Alagna-trained Ahundreddollarbill three-wide in early stretch. The gelding took off, rolling by the leader and opening ground on the field. In Range had the pocket trip, but was unable to find clearance until mid-stretch when Winning Ticket bore out, and Tim Tetrick got In Range up for second, with Winning Ticket third across the wire. Fashion Frenzie faded to fourth after the overland trip.

"I thought I had the best horse in the race," said McCarthy following the victory. "I warmed him up the second trip, and he was slick as an eel.”
Eight days earlier Ahundreddollarbill had tied up after warming up for the New York Sire Stakes final at Yonkers. Trainer Alagna scratched him that night but was confident he could rebound in a big way. He was spot on.
Ahundreddollarbill is owned by Crawford Farms and James Crawford. Sent off as a 4-1 offering in the field, Ahundreddollarbill returned $10.90 to win.
