Woodbine Mohawk Park: Adare Castle, Resolving score in SBOA elims
O'Brien Award winner Adare Castle captured her first start of 2022 on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park, taking her C$25,000 SBOA Stakes elimination for 3-year-old trotting fillies. Resolving was victorious in the other elimination.
Driven by James MacDonald, Adare Castle tipped out of third past the 29 1/5 opening quarter and moved up on the outside to take the lead away from Mischevious Rose (Bob McClure) after the 58 3/5 half. After she got command, Adare Castle would go on to hit three-quarters in 1:26 4/5, and a 27 3/5 final quarter sealed a 2 1/4 length decision in 1:54 2/5. Mischevious Rose held second, and Clockwork Orange (Austin Sorrie) came in third. Saundra (Sylvain Filion) and Gala Halo (Louis Roy) rounded out the top five.
Trainer Mark Etsell also co-owns Adare Castle, a daughter of Muscle Mass bred by Ed Lohmeyer, with partners Robert Newton, Graham Hopkins, and Peter Porter. She has a record of 8-2-0 from 10 lifetime starts, and she has now banked C$498,537. She paid $2.30 to win as the 1-9 favorite.
The other elimination went pretty much the same way as Makin Magic Tonite (McClure) posted the opening quarter in 28 3/5 and then yielded to Resolving (Trevor Henry), who brushed from third to first on the way to the 58 1/5 half. Resolving would go on to reach three-quarters in 1:27 4/5 and kicked home in 27 4/5 to score by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:55 3/5. Lilys Lass (MacDonald) rallied for second, and Makin Magic Tonite ended up third. Rose Run Xcentric (Jody Jamieson) and Angelonia (Tyler Moore) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Resolving, a Resolve filly bred by Tara Hills Stud Ltd and Jeff Ruch, is trained by Rob Fellows and owned by Yolanda Fellows, Blair Corbeil, and Edward Wilson. She is now a two-time winner from nine trips behind the gate, and she has put away C$136,490. She returned $7.10 to win.
