Woodbine Mohawk Park: Adare Castle dispatches OSS Gold Series foes
After suffering a rare defeat on June 6, Adare Castle returned to her winning ways on Thursday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park, capturing a C$156,300 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series event for 3-year-old trotting fillies.
Baby Longstocking (Doug McNair) fired out from post five for early command, but Adare Castle (James MacDonald) also showed speed from post seven, and she pressed on two-wide to take over the top spot beyond the 27 2/5 opening quarter.
Once she secured the lead, Adare Castle backed down the middle-half to 57 1/5 and 1:26, and she was able to hold sway over Baby Longstocking in the sprint for home, winning by a length in 1:53 3/5. Mischevious Rose (Bob McClure) rallied from last at the half to third at the wire.
"She gives everything every start. Even last time, we just got out-tripped and that was it," said winning trainer/co-owner Mark Etsell, who added that Adare Castle will remain in competition north of the border for the rest of her campaign, with the Elegantimage later in the season her first target against open company.
