Woodbine: Jenna's Wabbit can't be caught in Deputy Minister

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Jenna’s Wabbit got away with leisurely fractions and kept on going to take the $125,000 Deputy Minister Stakes on Wednesday night at Woodbine.

Jenna’s Wabbit had no problem carrying high weight of 128 pounds during a rainstorm in the seven-furlong sprint. He established splits of 23.64 and 45.47 while being pressed by Bear and Rod, and then drew clear in the stretch to score by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:23.

Courtville rallied to finish a clear second, and Bear and Rod nosed out Soda On the Side for third in the six-horse field of Ontario-sired 3-year-olds.

Eurico Da Silva rode the Ralph Biamonte-trained Jenna’s Wabbit, who also won his two previous starts at the meet, the Bold Ruckus and Achievement stakes.

“Ralph did a great job with this horse,” said Da Silva. “Last time, I was worried because he was really rank. But the horse was so relaxed today. I could do anything in the race. He’s a great horse to ride. He gives 100 percent every time.”

Jenna’s Wabbit ($2.50) banked $75,000 for the partnership of Mary Biamonte and Danny Lococo.
