Woodbine: Inish Glora holds off favorite

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Inish Glora ($9) held 3-5 favorite Ocean Drive at bay throughout the stretch run and posted a three-quarter-length victory in the Grade 3, $310,750 at Woodbine.

Inish Glora set dawdling fractions of 25.08 and 48.99 seconds over a firm course in the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares. Ocean Drive stalked in second and looked like she might run down Inish Glora in midstretch, but Inish Glora switched leads with a sixteenth left, and went on to complete the distance in 1:40.38. Classic Stamp was third in the six-horse field.

"We expected a strong pace, but nobody wanted the lead," said Todd Kabel, who rode Inish Glora. "I bided my time until we straightened up, and I let her sprint home."

Inish Glora, last year's champion turf female in Canada, earned $193,350 for owner Robert Costigan and trainer Mac Benson.
