Woodbine horses to watch: Week of Oct. 26
SILENT BRIDE
Trainer: John DiMarco
Last race: Oct. 18, 3rd
Finish: 4th by 11 3/4
Beyer: 16
This 2-year-old filly stumbled badly at the break, giving the others about an eight-length headstart, and then mounted a mild bid before galloping out well. That was her first appearance in the selling ranks, and she could beat $20,000 maidens in her next start.
VON TRAPP
Trainer: Shelley Fitzgerald
Last race: Oct. 18, 10th
Finish: 8th by 13 3/4
Beyer: 39
After missing the break, he stalked a quick pace until the stretch before tiring in a route for $25,000 Ontario-sired maidens. It was the 5-year-old’s first outing in more than a year, and it should set him up nicely for the next one.
BORN TO BE QUEEN
Trainer: Alison Crook
Last race: Oct. 19, 9th
Finish: 2nd by 2 1/4
Beyer: 60
This 3-year-old filly has improved since being claimed for $10,000 in August. In this nonwinners-of-three Ontario-sired allowance dash, she closed strongly on the outside in the final furlong over a track that featured a live rail.
INDIAN GUIDE
Trainer: Mark Casse
Last race: Oct. 19, 4th
Finish: 4th by 4
Beyer: 57
This stocky chestnut started slowly in his debut going seven furlongs and saved ground on the turn. After being angled wide in midstretch, he made up good ground in the last furlong. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him break through by the end of the meet.
