Woodbine horses to watch: Week of Oct. 19
PRIMORDIA
Trainer: Carlos Grant
Last race: Oct. 12, 8th
Finish: 3rd by 2 1/4
Beyer: 73
She had a rough trip before finishing behind the two favorites in the Carotene Stakes. She was steadied while in tight on the backstretch and then encountered significant traffic troubles in the stretch of that nine-furlong turf event.
EVERY PENNY COUNTS
Trainer: James Smith
Last race: Oct. 12, 3rd
Finish: 3rd by 5
Beyer: 46
She broke four lengths behind the others and then closed belatedly before galloping out strongly in her improved second start, in a six-furlong maiden special for Ontario-sired juvenile fillies.
ADVENTURE AT SEA
Trainer: Brian Lynch
Last race: Oct. 12, 5th
Finish: 2nd by 3 1/4
Beyer: 75
She was well placed inside in a stalking position, before lacking room early in the stretch in a seven-furlong maiden special on the grass. After getting clear on the outside, she made up good ground in the final furlong but was no match for Nancy O, who enjoyed clear sailing on the outside.
FOURTEES
Trainer: Nathan Squires
Last race: Oct. 11, 8th
Finish: 6th by 14 3/4
Beyer: 27
She failed to run back to her easy front-running debut score in this six-furlong event, in which she was rated off a slow pace before coming up empty in the drive. She should fare better with a more aggressive approach and deserves more chances at the Ontario-sired nonwinners-of-two allowance level.
