She stretched out off her 6 1/2-furlong maiden win to 1 1/16 miles in the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes, in which she ran strongly on the lead while setting a lively pace before weakening late. This 2-year-old daughter of Badge of Silver could have a bright future as a sprinter/miler.
JUST KEEP DRIVING
Trainer: Sam DiPasquale
Last race: Oct. 5, 1st
Finish: 1st by 2 1/4
Beyer: 53
This 2-year-old filly got away slowly before closing furiously from nearly 10 lengths back to graduate at first asking in a five-furlong dash for $20,000 maidens. She galloped out strongly, which bodes well for her chances in longer sprints.
SILENT BLESSING
Trainer: Pat Parente
Last race: Oct. 5, 6th
Finish: 2nd by 1 1/2
Beyer: 60
He started slowly while being bumped and then rallied from far back in a lovely debut effort as the favorite in a six-furlong maiden special for Ontario-sired stock. The 3-year-old colt by leading Ontario sire Silent Name shouldn’t be a maiden much longer.
MAYDELL
Trainer: Catherine Day Phillips
Last race: Oct. 4, 5th
Finish: 2nd by 2
Beyer: 58
She was shuffled back heading into the far turn before closing to finish a clear second behind the favorite. The 3-year-old filly was arguably best in that $50,000 maiden claimer, which was her first Polytrack start around two turns.
