Woodbine horses to watch: Week of Dec. 7
STRIKE THE MOON
Trainer: Mike Trombetta
Last race: Dec. 1, 8th
Finish: 3rd by 1 3/4
Beyer: 82
This steady Maryland-based mare arguably was best in the Grade 2 Bessarabian Stakes. While stalking the leaders in a large field, she lacked room in the stretch before surging late to miss second by a head.
CHARLOTTE’S QUEST
Trainer: Sandra Dominguez
Last race: Dec. 1, 1st
Finish: 4th by 5 3/4
Beyer: 47
She broke two lengths behind the others and was blocked early in the lane before passing two rivals in the final furlong and then galloping out well. The 2-year-old daughter of Spring At Last was making her first start in that five-furlong maiden special and should be better for the experience.
CRISTALINO
Trainer: Bob Tiller
Last race: Dec. 1, 1st
Finish: 5th by 6 1/2
Beyer: 45
She was bet down to even money at first asking in a five-furlong maiden special, and after breaking outward, she raced wide most of the way. The Northern Afleet 2-year-old is bred to run longer and could find her calling at middle distances.
MORE THAN BANDEAU
Trainer: Reade Baker
Last race: Nov. 30, 2nd
Finish: 2nd by 1 3/4
Beyer: 70
This late-running 3-year-old filly had no pace to chase in this $40,000 claimer but still came running. She’s really good right now, and there’s a first-level allowance in the book on closing day that she could be competitive in should her hot trainer decide to run her back.
