Woodbine: Hoof Ain’t It back on short rest for Friday allownace

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The imposing Hoof Ain’t It competes on short rest in Friday’s Woodbine feature, an Ontario-sired allowance for 3-year-old fillies.

Hoof Ain’t It, a daughter of leading Ontario sire Old Forester, went off at 13-1 when she debuted in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special April 22. After dueling for the lead with favored Love in Egbert, she edged away late to prevail by in 1:04.26, a time that translated into a solid 70 Beyer Speed Figure.

“She surprised me a little,” trainer Bob Tiller said. “She’s one of those horses that you don’t really like in the morning, because of her antics. She’s a quirky horse, but she handled the race well. She overpowered the other filly by size. She’s a giant.”

Steven Bahen will ride Hoof Ain’t It, who is owned by the cleverly named Hoof Hearted Stable.

Five of the other six entrants in the six-furlong event competed in the third race April 15, a 5 1/2-furlong Ontario-sired allowance. The exception is recent $25,000 maiden breaker High Ring.

Euphrasia was a first-out winner early in her 2-year-old season, before posting two double-digit losses in stakes. She missed the second half of 2011. She ran an unusual race April 15, during which she flashed early speed before dropping back and then re-rallied for second behind favored Sour Grapes.

Eurico Da Silva retains the mount on the Mike DePaulo-trained Euphrasia.

Is It Cool raced wide most of the way April 15, against the grain of a speed bias, and checked in five lengths back in third. She subsequently breezed a half-mile in 47.80 seconds, which was the fastest of 12 Polytrack works at the distance April 26.

Miss Scarlett Road was bucking in the paddock before going off as the favorite April 15, but she came home a tired sixth after fighting for the lead. She got a 62 Beyer in her debut victory at 2 and then went on to finish sixth in the open Glorious Song Stakes and second in an allowance.

Sunshine Promise missed a few days of training prior to her April 15 season opener, in which she vied for the lead along the inside before fading to fourth. Last Saturday, she worked five-eighths in a bullet 59.40 for trainer Dave Cotey, who sent her out for a handy maiden score Dec. 3.

Blondie the Best, who trailed the field April 15, is shedding the blinkers, which she wore in her two good 2-year-old performances.
