Race 1
(7) B SANTANNAS HOPE has faced much better in her last two and now drops lower than the level she was claimed for four back. Top call in a tough opener. (6) MOREMUNKYBUSINESS also drops here but is only 1 for 30 this year. She should contend despite that poor record. (5) MAPPOS MENHAY showed some life last time and she usually strings two or three good ones together then goes off form again; using here.
Race 2
(8) LEAN HANOVER has faced so much better than these that the five-week break may not matter here if he stays flat. (3) STRIKING CHEETAH finally hit the board last time and can go forward from that good performance. (7) NOFEAR BLUE CHIP was going good up to the OSS Superfinal then broke in that race and was a vet scratch (sick); mixed signals with this one.
Race 3
(6) ANTAR PHIL couldn’t advance first up last week in his first try for Puddy but the drop into conditioned claimers here makes him a big threat. (3) CHARLOTTES COLONY ships in and picks up the leading driver. He’s in with a shot in this mixed bag. (7) FORTUNE FELLA has the ability to take these a long way and likely will.
Race 4
(6) SECRECY moves into Zeron’s barn and he drove him to a sharp qualifying win last week. He should be all systems go here. (5) PRINT MEDIA will take plenty of action dropping out of the Grassroots final but may be a bit rusty after missing a month’s action. (7) READ THE PROPOSAL is another to consider who has been racing well in some swift miles recently.
Race 5
(4) KAMIKAZE LINDY made his move in a Woodbine-typical slow second quarter and that was that once he hit the front last week. Still, he is very sharp and a repeat is likely here. (7) MAGICAL PUMPKIN returns from a break with a good qualifier in tow and should be ready to threaten these right away. (2) TORTOLA SUNRISE has obvious issues but can be competitive here if he brings something close to his ‘A’ game.
Race 6
(3) DOCTOR ROYAL ships in off two sensational wins in the Maritimes to start his career and goes for the leading trainer; top call here. (8) BLAYDE HANOVER showed some grit pushing a big favorite to the limit last week and is worth inclusion in the early pick 4 off that mile. (1) PIRANHA set the pace early but was overtaken by the big favorite who won easily. He showed improved speed there and is in with a chance here.
Race 7
(6) IRISH SCOTCH was overtaken late last time by a very good filly who is destined for better things. He can take these. (4) ELDORADO OF GOLD S was thwarted by bad cover in the same mile. Expect sharp improvement here. (10) YANKEE PUZZLE also exits the same mile where he couldn’t advance late as the pace picked up. Note the lifetime-best win two back.
Race 8
(5) J CS JAKE beat many of these last time in his first start for Moreau. Expect more of the same here, likely at odds-on. (1) GIRL DRAMA should improve with the inner draw as she can get out a bit closer early. (8) DICKS SECRET closed impressively while cutting into the choice’s lead last time and is in with a shot if he can leave a bit quicker here.
Race 9
(2) STARCASTIC had some impressive form in the Maritimes in the summer, including beating 39-time winner Lisfinny by 7 lengths in just his 6th lifetime start. He looks very good in this spot. (1) MAJOR DAN went a long way on the lead last time but needs to find more late speed to be able to hold on at the wire. (6) MAN OF MANY ARTS exits a very quick heat for the class and could share here at a big price.
Race 10
(6) WARRAWEE RAP had an opener against a very good debut winner and could be expected to be more aggressively driven now. (1) SO RAVEN was a good 2nd last time but that was more than a month ago. She always looks good on paper but has yet to get the job done. (8) MACH MISS spun her wheels 2nd time out on a wet track after a sharp opener. She can rebound here. (9) KEYSTONE RIPTIDE has hit off tracks in her last two and showed little. She was racing better before that and can share here. (10) STYLISH BEACHWHERE debuts from a bad post but this is not a tough field. She might get a piece at long odds.
