Woodbine Harness: Horses to watch from March 14 - March 17

Ken Walters|Mar 19, 2014

Friday, March 14

LIVE TO DREAM (NW7200FM) Rushed to the top, set a good clip, opened up by a big margin heading home but hit the wall in mid stretch. Setting the pace was not the right place to be on this night and this one can be trouble on right night.

DREAMFAIR BOGART (NW2) Had trot but nowhere to go in the late stages of last. Keep in mind next race or two.

MARA MUTUEL (NW1FM) Was used hard to the top, set a strong clip, open up a huge margin but faltered in the lane. Should be able to notch a victory soon.

VALORSCROSS (NW2) Was parked a long way uncovered, challenged all the way and managed to edge by the tiring leader in the late stages. Such gameness has to be respected.

DOCS HOSS (CLM8000) Was rallying through the lane but was forced to take up for a few steps in the late stages. Gamed out a 3rd place finish when clear and might have won it all.

Saturday, March 15

APPRENTICE HANOVER (PRF) Tucked, pulled, brushed and crushed as prohibitive favorite and seems more than capable of another romp.

CHAMPAGNE PHIL (NW21500) Stays sharp if not the luckiest of pacers. Closing kick is undeniable as he proved once again but once again he had too far to come to hit the winners circle.

ILL BE THERE (NW6000) Blasted to the lead and never looked back. Speedy guy was much the best and should be considered once again.

D GS PESQUERO (NW3FM) Closed strongly but had too much traffic to clear in the shadow of the wire. Should be along in time next race or two.

Monday, March 17

DERBY DYLAN (CLM20000) Left, took the lead, rebuffed an early determined challenger, continued on with good clip and drew away a bit heading home holding with something left.

PLAY AT WYNN (CLM8000FM) Swept through the stetch with powerful strides and seems more than capable of winning another.

AMERICAN ISLAND (NW1) Began to rally up the rail, stumbled, skipped some steps, took up, settled quickly and hit overdrive fast enough to gain second. Might have won except for the missteps.

COLD CERTIFIED (NW7000) Showed speed to the lead, yielded and was shuflfed back, sat on the clogged rail with trot, searched here and there but cleared too late to launch a real bid.
