Woodbine: Flamenco all the way

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - New York invader Flamenco ($3.40) led throughout his stakes debut at Woodbine in the $139,875 Victoria, a five-furlong dash for 2-year-olds.

Robert Landry rode Flamenco, who went the opening quarter-mile in a winded-aided 22.12 seconds. Flamenco began to draw off after a half in 45.57 and went on to prevail by 4 1/2 lengths after failing to switch leads in the stretch. Wholelottabourbon was second, and Da Cardinal finished five lengths back in third in the nine-horse field. The final time was 57.90 seconds.

"He broke well and went on his way," said Landry. "I just pointed him towards the wire, and he did the rest."

Flamenco earned $83,925. He won his only other start in a maiden special at Belmont May 28 for trainer Todd Pletcher.
