Woodbine to eliminate $20K and $40K open claiming races
ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The complexion of the middle and upper claiming ranks changes at Woodbine in the upcoming Condition Book 4 with the elimination of open $20,000 and $40,000 claimers.
The other races eliminated in the new book are: open allowances; first-level allowances for 3-year-olds with a $75,000-claiming option; first-level allowances for 3-year-olds and up; and second-level allowances with a $62,500-claiming option for 3-year-olds up.
A release put out with the new book states: “To ensure we are utilizing all of Woodbine's race-ready horses, we have implemented new and modified some of our existing conditions offered for Condition Book 4.”
The additions to Condition Book 4 are:
•3-year-olds and up nonwinners of two lifetime allowance or 3-year-olds $50,000 claiming.
•3-year-olds and up nonwinners of $9,000 once other than maiden, claiming or restricted allowance or nonwinners of two or $32,000 claiming.
(First preference for horses that have not run for $15,000 claiming or less in their last three starts if race overfills.)
•3-year-olds and up nonwinners of $9,000 twice other than maiden, claiming or restricted allowance or nonwinners of a race in 18 months, or nonwinners of three, or $50,000 Claiming.
•3-year-olds and up nonwinners of $9,000 three times other than maiden, claiming or restricted allowance, or nonwinners of four, or nonwinners of a non-restricted sweepstakes of $55,000 in the last six months, or $80,000 claiming.
Condition Book 4 goes from June 16 to July 3.
