Woodbine: Dimension wins Play the King Stakes at 10-1

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Dimension, a 10-1 outsider from Kentucky, put away the other speed and kept on going to take Sunday’s Grade 2 Play the King Stakes, the local prep for next month’s $1 million Woodbine Mile.
Dimension dueled with Danger Bay and Excaper through honest fractions in the seven-furlong turf sprint while saving ground under jockey David Moran. Dimension opened up a clear lead in midstretch, then edged away to prevail by 2 1/4 lengths in a quick 1:19.89 over a very firm course.
Excaper held second by a half-length over a closing Riding the River, while 2-1 favorite Go Blue Or Go Home checked in fourth in a field reduced to 12 with the scratch of Paso Doble.
Dimension ($23) earned $120,000 of the $201,600 purse for Riverside Bloodstock and trainer Conor Murphy, who is based at the Skylight Training Center.
“He’s a very nice horse, very uncomplicated,” Moran said. “I thought there was going to be a little bit more speed. Conor had said to me that a couple of his previous races were better from the front, so when I had him carry me like that on the rail, I said that could do me until I get to the turn.”
Reconnect wins Belle Mahone Stakes
Reconnect ($45.50) rallied wide off a lively pace to win Sunday’s $114,400 Belle Mahone Stakes by a neck over 2-5 favorite Sisterly Love, who nosed out Moment of Majesty for second.
Reconnect banked $72,000 for Colebrook Farm in the 1 1/16-mile route for fillies and mares. Jesse Campbell rode her for trainer Ashlee Brnjas.
