Woodbine: Biamonte has pair in Kingarvie

Ron Gierkink|Nov 24, 2011

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainer Ralph Biamonte will take two shots at Saturday’s $125,000 Kingarvie Stakes, when he runs favorites Jenna’s Wabbit and Run in Aruba in the 1 1/16-mile event for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds at Woodbine.

Jenna’s Wabbit performed well in all three of his races early in the meet, but has really put it all together since returning from a layoff.

Jenna’s Wabbit won the six-furlong Bull Page on the lead by 7 1/4 lengths with a 79 Beyer Speed Figure on Oct. 10. Three weeks later, in another Ontario-sired stakes, the seven-furlong Frost King, he was allowed to set a soft pace before coasting home on top by 2 1/2 lengths, with an 82 Beyer Figure.

“Anybody who tries to go with him, I think it would be suicide for them,” said Biamonte.

Jenna’s Wabbit has a speed-oriented pedigree, but Biamonte is optimistic that this son of Old Forester will handle a route of ground.

“The way that he’s been training, I don’t think he’s going to have any problem going long,” said Biamonte, adding that jockey Patrick Husbands “said he’s sure that he can go long.”

Run in Aruba is less imposing than the huge Jenna’s Wabbit.

Except for his maiden victory, Run in Aruba didn’t show much while sprinting. He is coming off a narrow score in a mile and 70-yard allowance, for which he got a 62 Beyer.

“He’s been improving daily,” said Biamonte. “I have a funny feeling that he might run a big race. He ran pretty good last time. It was strictly the two horses, and they were far ahead of the rest of the field. . . . He’s come back in better order that he was going into that race. He’s a Philanthropist, and I was hoping that he’d run like the rest of them and get better as they go farther, and as they get a little bit older.”

True Executive graduated at first asking traveling six furlongs Oct. 10. He then took a leap up to Bull Page Stakes, in which he wound up a clear second with a 76 Beyer. He also possesses a sprint-oriented pedigree.

The aptly-named Love to Battle ran gamely on the lead in each of his last two starts going long. Most recently, he nosed out favored Thatboathassailed for his maiden win.

Ultimate Destiny won his maiden second time out in a seven-furlong maiden special Oct. 3.
