Woodbine: 'Ami' gets maiden win

Victorious Ami ($15.70) closed strongly in the stretch to win her maiden in style in the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes.

Jockey Emile Ramsammy had Victorious Ami in a stalking position in the 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-old fillies, as Simply Lovely, the 4-5 favorite, dueled with Bimini Breeze and Dancehall Deelites through moderate fractions. Victorious Ami overtook Dancehall Deelites inside the eighth pole before edging away for a 1 3/4-length victory.

Smartest Thing, another maiden, rallied wide for second in the 10-horse field of Canadian-breds. Dancehall Deelites finished another length back in third, while Simply Lovely faded to fourth.

A daughter of Belmont Stakes winner Victory Gallop, Victorious Ami covered the distance in 1:48.44 and earned $150,000.
