Won't be easy to walk away with $974K Golden Pick 6 jackpot
For $7,560, you can cover every horse and have all six winners in Thursday’s Golden Pick 6 jackpot wager at Golden Gate Fields. And with a $974,173 jackpot going into the card, that may be a tempting proposition for some bettors.
But there are no sure things at the racetrack – even if you have the winner of every race. That’s because the Golden Pick 6 jackpot is paid only when there is a single ticket with all six winners. There are only 35 horses in the Golden Pick 6 races on Thursday (races 2-7), but the races are contentious enough that hitting all six won’t be easy.
It’s been 48 racing days (since Feb. 27) since the Golden Pick 6 fell to one solo ticket. Last week, there were multiple tickets with six winners every day.
The Golden Pick 6 can be played for a minimum of 20 cents.
Here is a rundown of Thursday’s Golden Pick 6 races:
Race 2: Pop Fizz Clink is dropping from $16,000 to this $12,500-claiming sprint for fillies and mares. She has speed and an outside post, but her recent Beyer Speed Figures don’t stand out. Annisquam, stepping up several levels in class, may be the longest shot on the board, but she was just reclaimed by the red-hot John Martin. He is second in the trainer standings, just one win behind Jerry Hollendorfer, who has sent out 99 more runners.
Race 3: Heavy favorite Miss Forty Niner will be tough to beat in this one-mile turf race for fillies and mares. She has been competitive with better and makes her first start off the claim for trainer Jonathan Wong. Emeralds Miss makes her first start in nearly 14 months. She has a win and two seconds over the course.
Race 4: Brenda’s Bar is the one to beat going a mile in this $4,000 claimer for 3-year-olds and up. He has earned Beyers in the 70s in four of his last five starts, which is something none of his opponents can match. Fly Blue has beaten Brenda’s Bar but couldn’t handle him the last time they met. Quackin ran fifth against better on turf after two months on the sidelines and will appreciate the return to the main track. Ted Oliver has been first and second against weaker in his last two starts and would have to improve.
Race 5: Myheartsinthecity is adding blinkers for this $6,250 claiming sprint for fillies and mares who have never won two races. He has been knocking at the door for a trainer who has yet to win at the meet.
Race 6: Deputy Dane set the pace going long on turf against better here in his last start. This $16,000-claiming sprint on dirt for 3-year-olds is a better spot for him. You Play the Bench graduated in his only start, which came against $8,000 maidens.
Race 7: Meeting in Heaven takes a big drop into this maiden $8,000 claimer for 3-year-olds going a mile. Hawkeye Pride was a distant second at this level and distance last time.
