Wonder Gal tackles open company in Adirondack Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – After dominating mostly New York-bred maidens July 6 in the $125,000 Lynbrook Stakes at Belmont Park, Wonder Gal will race in open company in Sunday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Adirondack Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs.
Wonder Gal, a daughter of Tiz Wonderful trained by Leah Gyarmati, will take on six rivals in the Adirondack, including the Texas-bred stakes winner Vivian Da Bling and the Schuylerville Stakes runner-up Take Charge Brandi, as well as maiden winners Angela Renee, Cavorting, Empressive Humor, and Phoenix Park.
“There’s a handful of impressive fillies, but I think now is probably the best time of year to try something like that,” Gyarmati said. “I think she’s a really nice filly, and I think she’s going to run well. I don’t know how to gauge the other fillies in there. A lot of them have all won impressively, so you don’t know when they all get together how it all plays out.”
Wonder Gal showed some professionalism in her debut win, breaking alertly, then splitting horses around the turn, before galloping away from the field in the stretch.
Despite not being able to use her five-pound weight allowance, Taylor Rice will ride Wonder Gal.
