ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Wonder Gadot ($4.20) toyed with her three rivals in Saturday’s $142,250 Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine, winning the Grade 3 route for 2-year-old fillies by six lengths. Wonder Gadot’s victory was a record seventh win in the Mazarine for both jockey Patrick Husbands and trainer Mark Casse, who also sent out the runner-up, Shamrock Rose. Wonder Gadot went straight to the front and set moderate fractions in the 1 1/16-mile event. Shamrock Rose and Avie’s Mineshaft both stalked her as Ladies Night trailed on the backstretch. Wonder Gadot began to draw off early in the stretch and prevailed in a quick time of 1:44.14. Ladies Night inherited third after Avie’s Mineshaft faded in the drive.  “I taught her a lot how to relax,” Husbands said. “On the turf, she’s a more relaxed filly, but on the [Tapeta], she’s the real deal.” Wonder Gadot earned $94,500 in her first stakes score for owner Gary Barber, who purchased the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro for $325,000 at a Florida juvenile sale in April. There was only win and exacta wagering on the race due to the scratch of Oldfashioned Style.
