Witt Six dominates Star of Texas Stakes

Witt Six rolled by six lengths in the $50,000 Star of Texas Stakes on Tuesday’s closing-day card at Sam Houston Race Park. It was the seventh stakes win for Witt Six, and his first against fellow Texas-breds. Lonesome Wind finished second, 2 3/4 lengths clear of Spider’s Alibi, who was third.
The Star of Texas was for 4-year-olds and up at a mile. It was restricted to horses bred in Texas.
Witt Six ($6.20) stalked in fourth through an opening quarter in 23.70 seconds, advanced through a half-mile in 47.51, moved to the fore after six furlongs in 1:11.93, and won on a fast track in 1:37.17.
Sasha Risenhoover was aboard Witt Six for trainer Amanda Barton.
Witt Six is a son of Drums of Thunder who races for his breeder, Henry S. Witt Jr. He has now won 9 of 36 starts and earned $213,431.
