ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The class structure for the lower claiming ranks at Woodbine has been modified heading into the final portion of the meet, beginning Thursday with Condition Book 10. Conditioned $7,500 claimers have been suspended. Nonwinners-of-two and nonwinners-of-three claimers for $10,000 are being introduced, along with $5,000 conditioned claimers and open $5,000 claimers. Thursday’s second race for $5,000 nonwinners of two seems wide open. Fedaline looks like the one to catch in the 6 1/2-furlong main-track sprint as she attempts to double up off her maiden victory. Tamana is dropping from $15,000 and has maintained solid form throughout the meet. Onandonandon had a troubled trip two back before another fringe finish for $7,500. Taylormoon dusted $7,500 maidens in her penultimate race, but a four-wide trip led to her downfall most recently against $7,500 nonwinners of two. The featured fifth race includes Witch Hazel, who is dropping into allowance company off a trailing fifth in the Ontario Damsel Stakes, from which runner-up Solo Album exited to beat the boys in the Grade 3 Ontario Derby before getting disqualified. :: Bet with the Best! Witch Hazel passed her first two-turn test with flying colors in an Oct. 1 allowance, in which she had a contested pace to chase before prevailing over the favorite while earning an 86 Beyer Speed Figure. Rafael Hernandez will ride the fast worker again for trainer Katerina Vassilieva, and they’re a combined 6 for 20 at the meet. Trainer Mark Casse entered Toeris and Mo Town Mayhem in the conditioned allowance with a $50,000 claiming option. Toeris reverted back to a speed style last time when a fading fifth going about nine furlongs on the grass. The daughter of Tourist was previously third on the Tapeta in her second start off the shelf. Mo Town Mayhem won 2 of 4 starts at four different tracks. She graduated second time out on the dirt at Churchill in May and went to the sidelines after a second in a June 24 allowance at Ellis Park. When reaching out to 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf off a layoff here Sept. 30, she dueled through soft fractions before drawing clear in the final furlong to win that allowance comfortably. Patrick Husband will ride Toeris, and Sahin Civaci retains the mount on Mo Town Mayhem. Curlin Candy struggled in her last few after clearing the first allowance condition in an Aug. 5 turf sprint. Expect her to lead the way on the stretch-out while being reunited with Emma-Jayne Wilson, who has fared okay for trainer Mike DePaulo. Pemberley wired the field in an Aug. 12 allowance route on the grass under apprentice Sofia Vives before finishing fourth and then fifth at this level. Mike Mattine trains the homebred. Rounding out the field is 12-time winner Rosebud’s Hope, who is debuting off an uncharacteristically dull performance and a $32,000 claim by owner Bruno Schickedanz and trainer Mike Dunslow.
