Trainer Terry Brennan likes the added ground Wishful Quality will get Wednesday night when she shoots for her second win of the meet at Lone Star Park.

Wishful Quality goes in the 10th race, a conditioned allowance for fillies and mares at six furlongs. It’s the feature on an 11-race card that boasts five allowances. There is a special first post of 6:05 p.m. Central for what is closing night at Lone Star.

Wishful Quality comes off a runner-up finish in a two-other-than allowance over 5 1/2 furlongs on July 21 at Lone Star. One start prior, she won over seven furlongs, rolling by four lengths in a local first-level allowance June 16.

“Five and a half is a little short for her,” Brennan said. “She was running over the top of them at the end, just got beat a half-length.

“She tries hard.”

Lane Luzzi has the mount on Wishful Quality, who is part of a field of six that includes stakes winners Mt. Brave and Trixie Race.

Mt. Brave is a candidate to wire the field. She is moving back to both dirt and six furlongs, the conditions of her most significant win, the Flashy Lady Stakes at Remington Park. Stewart Elliott, who hit a milestone of 5,000 wins Sunday, has the mount for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Asmussen won four races Sunday to pad his lead in the local trainer standings. He will send out top contenders in three other Wednesday allowances.

Asmussen has Senor Jobim in the fifth, a first-level allowance over five furlongs. The horse was the first career mount for his son Keith James Asmussen, who will be aboard again Wednesday. The Asmussens teamed for two local wins Sunday, including a maiden special weight with Fortune Ticket, a 3-year-old full brother to $15 million earner Gun Runner.

The father-and-son combo will have Fra Mauro in the ninth, a first-level allowance at a mile. The horse was second at the distance last out at Keeneland. Asmussen’s other allowance runner of note on the card is Cherished, who moves back to turf for the meet finale, a first-level allowance for fillies and mares at five-eighths. Elliott has the mount.
