Wise Gal faces 11 others in Chelsey Flower
ELMONT, N.Y. – Sixteen were entered Thursday for Sunday’s $100,000 Chelsey Flower Stakes, the co-feature on Belmont’s closing-day card. The field will be limited to 12 runners.
Among the entrants is Wise Gal, a daughter of Einstein trained by Dove Houghton who has won both of her starts, including the Selima Stakes at Laurel. Wise Gal drew post 8 and will be ridden by Steve Hamilton.
Madame X and Eighty Six Mets, second and third behind Wise Gal, are also in this field.
Golden Orb, sixth in the Grade 1 Natalma at Woodbine following a sharp debut win, heads the local contingent.
Also on Sunday’s card is the $100,000 Pumpkin Pie Stakes for female sprinters going six furlongs.
Lucy N Ethel, the winner of last year’s Grade 2 Prioress, will try to bounce back from a last-place finish in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom, her first start in 11 months. She will test her speed against the very fast New Jersey-bred filly Bustin Out, a winner of eight of nine starts, including four of her last five. This will be her first start outside New Jersey.
Cursor, Fusaichi Red, Indulgent, Summer Reading, and Tiffany Case complete the field.
