Wise Dan's half-brother in allowance feature
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEWith earnings of more than $100,000, Casino Dan has enjoyed a rewarding racing career, albeit one overshadowed by the achievements of two siblings, one in particular.
Casino Dan is a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner Successful Dan and two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan and has the same connections: owner-breeder Mort Fink and trainer Charlie LoPresti.
A 7-year-old gelding by Mutakddim out of Lisa Danielle, Casino Dan runs Sunday at Turfway in the sixth race, where he is the 7-2 third choice on the morning line in a field of six, racing a mile for a $26,000 purse under nonwinners-of-three allowance conditions.
Although not in the same league as Wise Dan, Casino Dan shares a preference with his sibling. Both are at their best racing approximately a mile on turf or synthetic.
Casino Dan has a win and a second in two starts on Turfway’s Polytrack.
Lucky Kitten favored
Sunday’s card also includes a first-level optional $25,000 claimer. The eighth race, at one mile, attracted eight runners.
Half are racing for the claiming tag, including the race favorite, Lucky Kitten, who won a similar race at Turfway on Dec. 28.
A Kentucky-bred, Lucky Kitten has capitalized on a change in rules instituted last year that allows horses running in optional-claiming races to be eligible for Kentucky-bred purse incentives. So, he is eligible to race for a Kentucky-bred-bolstered purse of $26,000. Before the rule took effect, he would have raced for approximately half that purse.
A 5-year-old, gelded son of Kitten’s Joy, Lucky Kitten is 2 for 3 on Turfway’s Polytrack for Eclipse Award-winning owners and breeders Ken and Sarah Ramsey
