Wise Dan resumes daily galloping

Wise Dan has begun daily galloping at his home base of Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., as trainer Charlie LoPresti begins thinking about a possible next race for the two-time Horse of the Year.
Wise Dan had been on a 30-day schedule of alternating between jogging and galloping until being cleared last weekend by veterinary staff at the Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital to resume full-blown training on the main track at Keeneland.
LoPresti said he is considering a number of races for Wise Dan’s first start back in what he hopes will lead to the Breeders’ Cup Mile on Oct. 31 at his home track. Among those races are the Aug. 15 Fourstardave or Sept. 7 Bernard Baruch, both at Saratoga, or the Sept. 13 Woodbine Mile.
Wise Dan, 8, was the 2012 and 2013 Horse of the Year. Last October, shortly after his most recent start, the gelding was diagnosed with a slight fracture in his right front ankle that did not require surgery.
