Wire job possible in Evangeline Downs Princess
Joe G’s Payback is a candidate to wire the field in Friday night’s $50,000 Evangeline Downs Princess, a six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies. It’s the penultimate stakes of the Opelousas, La., meet that closes Aug. 29.
Joe G’s Payback, who has broken on top in each of her four races, will start from the rail in the field of eight. She won her maiden wire to wire June 19 at Evangeline, then picked up checks in two stakes. In her latest effort, she finished third in the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Juvenile on Aug. 3 at Louisiana Downs.
Colby Hernandez has the mount for trainer Brett Brinkman.
Kasserine Pass could get an ideal tracking trip from post 5. She is coming off a 5 1/4-length maiden special weight win July 25 at Evangeline. The Beyer Speed Figure of 55 that she earned is the best career number in Friday’s field. Roberto Morales has the mount for trainer Bret Calhoun.
