WinStar purchases interest in Daredevil

DRF Breeding Staff|Oct 24, 2014

WinStar Farm has acquired a half-interest in Grade 1 winner Daredevil, in partnership with owner Let’s Go Stable.

The 2-year-old son of WinStar Farm stallion More Than Ready is undefeated in two starts, most recently winning the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont on Oct. 4. He is scheduled to make his next start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 1 at Santa Anita. WinStar also co-owns another top Juvenile contender in Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity winner Carpe Diem, also owned in part by Stonestreet Farm. Both colts are trained by Todd Pletcher.

The new arrangement means that Daredevil will stand alongside his sire at WinStar upon the conclusion of his racing career. More Than Ready was campaigned by James Scatuorchio, whose son Kevin is one of the partners in Let's Go Stable.

“We had been patiently looking for a top son of our leading sire More Than Ready to bring alongside in the WinStar stallion ranks, and we believe Daredevil is the most exciting one to come along yet,” said WinStar president and CEO Elliott Walden. “He is a Grade 1 winner on dirt, and extremely fast. His 107 Beyer winning the Champagne in hand makes him the fastest 2-year-old colt since Uncle Mo.”

Bred in Kentucky by Marianne and Brandon Chase, Daredevil was a $260,000 purchase by Let’s Go Stable at the 2013 Keeneland September yearling sale.

He is out of the winning Forty Niner mare Chasethewildwind, whose six winners from as many foals to race also includes Grade 1 winner Albertus Maximus and Grade 3-placed Chasethegold. Daredevil is from the extended family of Grade/Group 1 winners Race the Wild Wind, King Charlemagne, and Here Comes Ben, as well as Group 3 winner Meshaheer.

“I love the fact that there are five Grade 1 winners under his first two dams,” Walden continued. “I also love that Todd Pletcher picked him out as a yearling; nobody knows More Than Ready better than Todd, Mr. Scatuorchio, and the guys at Let’s Go Stable. We are grateful to be partners with Let’s Go in this promising young star, and we hope to share in all of the success they have had in such a short amount of time. We can't wait to race Daredevil, and eventually add him to our stallion roster.”
