Winning Romance getting some time off

Winning Romance, who was a 20 3/4-length winner of the $100,000 Louisiana Legends Soiree for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday night at Evangeline Downs, will be getting a little downtime in Kentucky, trainer Bret Calhoun said Tuesday.
“We’ll freshen her, give her about 30 days turn out, and point toward the Louisiana-bred races in the fall,” he said.
Winning Romance won her first stakes in the Soiree after having run second and third to the undefeated Australasia in a pair of Louisiana-bred stakes. Australasia came back to win an allowance at Churchill Downs and the Jersey Girl at Belmont Park.
As for Winning Romance, she dueled in the early stages of the one-mile Soiree, then opened up on the four-horse field. She earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 86.
“She ran huge,” Calhoun said. “Obviously, it was a short field and sloppy conditions. I’ve always been pretty high on this filly, then Australasia showed up good in open company at Churchill and at Belmont this past week. We were beaten just a couple of lengths by her the last Louisiana-bred stakes.”
Winning Romance is a daughter of First Samurai owned by Allied Racing Stable.
