Winner of Del Mar race disqualified from earnings for positive clenbuterol test
The $47,000 purse of a starter allowance at Del Mar last August has been ordered redistributed after race winner Inch tested positive for the banned bronchodilator clenbuterol, according to a ruling issued by Santa Anita stewards on Friday. The positive was found in a post-race urine sample, the ruling stated.
Inch was disqualified from purse earnings because of the positive, according to the ruling. Owner Rockingham Ranch was ordered to return $27,000 in first-place earnings to Del Mar officials by March 19. Trainer Jeff Mullins and jockey Mike Smith were ordered to forfeit their shares of the winnings, $2,700 and $2,521.
Following the disqualification, the revised order for the first five finishers is Daniel’s Magic, Stotland, My Harbors Dream, Finally Here, and Edinburgh Express.
Mullins was fined $1,500 and suspended 15 days last month for the infraction after reaching an agreement with the California Horse Racing Board.
