Wingman gunning for third straight win in turf feature

Wingman goes for the hat trick in a first-level allowance race with a $25,000 claiming option that will serves as Sunday’s feature at Gulfstream Park. Farley could end Wingman’s streak, but will have his work cut out for him breaking from the outside post in the 7 1/2-furlong race, which drew 11 horses for turf. Fundy’s Tide will run if the race moves to the main track.
The highly competitive event goes as race 10 on a 12-race card that begins at 12:45 p.m. Eastern.
Competition runs deep, but Wingman figures to be favored. After all, he is perfect in two starts since being claimed for $25,000 by trainer Robert Dibona, and he is coming back at the same level and distance he won at on June 23.
With Samy Camacho aboard, he was in a stalking position while Seven Gems was setting an honest pace in the turf race. He appeared to be full of run with nowhere to go on the turn and finished with a rush from along the rail to get up in the last few strides.
Wingman is not a one-trick pony, though, and looks just as dangerous if the race gets moved to the main track. In his first start for Dibona, he won going a mile on a sloppy main track in a $16,000 starter race with a $25,000 claiming option on June 16.
Wingman will break from post 4 under Camacho.
