Winchell buys interest in Pin Oak stallion Cowboy Cal
Pin Oak Stud Cowboy Cal's first foals will be yearlings of 2012.
Ron Winchell has bought an unspecified interest in Pin Oak Stud stallion Cowboy Cal, who stands at the Versailles, Ky., farm for $7,500.

Janice and Robert McNair campaigned and now stand the 6-year-old multiple graded-winning millionaire and sold the interest to Winchell. A Giant’s Causeway horse, Cowboy Cal won six stakes, including the Strub Stakes, San Pasqual Handicap, and Oak Tree Mile Stakes in 2009. He placed in four Grade 1s, most notably with second-place finishes in the 2008 Blue Grass Stakes and Hollywood Derby and the 2009 Turf Classic Stakes.
The McNairs’ homebred is out of Texas Tammy, a Seeking the Gold mare, and is her first stakes winner.
