Win the War prevails in Glorious Song

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Win the War ($11.20) benefited from an early front-end battle involving 1-5 favorite Grace and Dignity before drawing off for an authoritative score in Sunday’s $104,200 Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine.
With Eurico Da Silva up, Grace and Dignity dueled with Enchanted Tale during a wind-aided opening quarter of 21.90 in the seven-furlong test for 2-year-old fillies. Grace and Dignity shook loose through a half in 44.38, but Win the War loomed boldly on the turn and then kicked away in the lane to prevail by 11 1/4 lengths, in a time 1:21.52.
Grace and Dignity finished a clear second over Perfection Cat, who nosed out Star Hunter for third in the six-horse field.
Patrick Husbands rode Win the War for leading trainer Mark Casse.
“I just kept my eyes on Eurico,” Husbands said. “Going down the (backstretch), they were going pretty quick. She was doing everything easy. I went up to Eurico so easy, but I didn’t know how much horse he had. I tried to jump his filly, hoping his filly wouldn’t come back.”
Win the War, a $700,000 yearling purchase by War Front, earned $60,000 for the partnership of Gary Barber and John Oxley. She is unbeaten in two starts, with her debut coming on the grass.
