Win the Space likely to run in Breeders' Cup Classic
Win the Space, third behind California Chrome and Dortmund in the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes last Saturday, remains a candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Classic, trainer George Papaprodromou said.
Papaprodromou said a decision will be made after discussions in the coming weeks with owner Rustin Kretz. He said the Classic is more likely than the $1 million BC Dirt Mile on Nov. 4.
“We’re leaning toward the Classic,” Papaprodromou said. “It will be a smaller field, and I prefer that.”
Win the Space, 4, has won 3 of 14 starts and earned $292,572. Earlier this year, Win the Space was second in the Grade 1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita behind Melatonin in June and third behind California Chrome in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar in July. Win the Space was pulled up in the $1 million Pacific Classic on Aug. 20 but emerged from the race without injury.
