Will Rogers Downs: Diamond Lucy wins Wilma Mankiller Memorial Stakes
Diamond Lucy led throughout to win her third straight race in the $50,000 Wilma Mankiller Memorial Stakes at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., on Monday. She won by 2 1/2 lengths over Cabo Time, and it was another 2 3/4 lengths back to Molly's Honour in third.
Diamond Lucy ($15.40) broke from the rail and set fractions of 22.17 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 45.09 for the half-mile before going on to finish the six-furlong race for fillies and mares in 1:09.91.
Glen Murphy was aboard for owner and trainer Eleuterio Martinez. Diamond Lucy earned $30,000 for the win, her sixth from 15 starts. She is a 4-year-old filly by Lewis Michael and was bred in Louisiana by Mays Farm. Diamond Lucy won two allowances at Sam Houston preceding the Wilma Mankiller.
