Will Rogers Downs: Chifforobe scores third straight win in Route 66
Chifforobe won his third consecutive race on Tuesday, when he held off Solar Charge by a length in the $50,000 Clem McSpadden Memorial Route 66 at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla. It was another 1 1/ 2 lengths back in third to Flat Black.
The Route 66 was for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs.
Chifforobe ($29.60) tracked the pace in third, as Credit Report set fractions of 21.89 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.38 for the half-mile. Chifforobe advanced three wide around the final turn, moved to the fore into the stretch, and held Solar Charge at bay while covering the distance on a fast track in 1:10.49.
Jose Medina rode the winner for Paul Sinclair and trainer Jody Pruitt.
Chifforobe began his win streak on Jan. 25, in an optional $20,000 claiming sprint at 5 ½ furlongs at Sam Houston Race Park. He then captured an optional $25,000 claiming turf sprint at the track before winning his stakes debut in the Route 66. Earlier in his career, Chifforobe won his maiden for a claiming price of $7,500 at Lone Star Park. He was claimed from that race run June 7, 2013. Chifforobe is a 4-year-old gelding by Nobiz Like Shobiz and was bred in Oklahoma by Chris Duncan and Elizabeth Valando.
Chifforobe earned $30,000 for the win, his seventh from 11 career starts. He has now earned $103,013.
