Wildcat Red done for the year

MIAMI – Trainer Jose Garoffalo said Tuesday that Wildcat Red’s 3-year-old campaign is over. The son of D’wildcat concludes his season with three wins in 10 starts and earnings of nearly $850,000.
Wildcat Red was one of the stars of the 2014 Gulfstream Park meet, and Garoffalo said he wants to have a fresh horse for the 2015 season. Wildcat Red won the Grade 3 Hutcheson and Grade 2 Fountain of Youth over his home track earlier this year. He was also second, beaten a neck by Constitution, in the Grade 1 Florida Derby and second in the Gulfstream Park Derby. His only poor effort at 3 came in the Kentucky Derby when he finished a distant 18th behind California Chrome.
“He’s just galloping easily right now,” Garoffalo said. “I’ll probably have him start breezing again the first or second week of December. I considered running him once more before the year ended, but I couldn’t find a suitable race for him. So we’ll just wait for the Sunshine Millions Classic [on Jan. 17] and train him up to that spot.”
