Wildcat Red begins comeback journey

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Wildcat Red is back on a regular training schedule but still has a long way to go before he makes it back to the races. Wildcat Red hasn’t raced since suffering a hind-end injury following his fifth-place finish in the Sunshine Millions Classic in January.
Last year, Wildcat Red won the Grade 3 Hutcheson and Grade 2 Fountain of Youth and was the runner-up in the Grade 1 Florida Derby.
“He’s been back galloping now a full week, and everything is going well,” said trainer Jose Garoffalo on Tuesday. “He looks like a different horse. He’s really grown, added muscle, and really filled out a lot. He needed the break. I probably gave him a little more time off than necessary, but that’s certainly not going to hurt him down the road. It’s a long year. If all goes well, he could start breezing again by the end of the month, but at the moment, we have no time frame picked out for his next start.”
