Wild West Futurity trials draws them from all over
Proud Movin Renegade compiled a four-race winning streak at tracks in Utah and Idaho through the summer, culminating with a victory in the $96,000 Bitterroot Futurity at Pocatello Downs on July 31.
Proud Movin Renegade will start for the first time at Los Alamitos on Sunday in the first of two divisions of the Wild West Futurity trials at 350 yards. The race is restricted to juveniles that have started at tracks in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming or in Canada.
In past years, horses needed two starts in those states or Canada to be eligible, but the track slightly relaxed the policy this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, a track official said on Friday.

The horses with the 10 fastest times on Sunday, regardless of finishing positions, advance to the $99,350 final on Oct. 25.
Proud Movin Renegade was previously trained by Riley Moosman and is now based with Jose Flores. A gelding, Proud Movin Renegade drew the rail and has six rivals in Sunday’s trial.
Coronado Kiss, third in the Bitterroot, is Proud Movin Renegade’s most accomplished rival. Trained by Monty Arrossa, Coronado Kiss has the benefit of a recent start at Los Alamitos, having finished second by a half-length in an allowance race at 330 yards on Sept. 11.
CM Dillingham Advice, second in the Emerald Juvenile Challenge, drew the outside post. The gelding was beaten a half-length in the Emerald Downs race on Aug. 20 in his stakes debut.
The trials are the final two races on an eight-race program.
In the second trial, trainer Monty Arrossa has four of the seven runners, including Well Kiss My Wagon and Threefamousdiamonds.
Well Kiss My Wagon is well traveled, having finished fourth in a maiden special weight race at Louisiana Downs in March. On Sept. 12, Well Kiss My Wagon was second in the $42,500 Sweetwater Open Futurity in Rock Springs, Wyo. This will be the filly’s Los Alamitos debut. Ray Mayo and Jordan Hadley were the previous trainers of Well Kiss My Wagon.
Threefamousdiamonds, an Idaho-bred gelding, was second in the Oneida County Fair Futurity in Idaho on Aug. 9 and a troubled fourth in an allowance race at 330 yards in his Los Alamitos debut on Sept. 19. Arrossa has a stable in the Pacific Northwest and trained Threefamousdiamonds for those races.
Relentless Six, second in the $60,000 Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass in Oregon on July 6, is part of the final trial.
Relentless Six began his career with two losses at Los Alamitos in the spring. Trained by Danny Montes, Relentless Six was third in a division of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Futurity on Sept. 13, a race that could make him the favorite on Sunday.
