Wild in the Saddle wins Tranquility Lake Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. – Wild in the Saddle, refreshed from an early-summer trip to the farm, won her second stakes of 2015 in Wednesday’s $108,330 Tranquility Lake Stakes for fillies and mares at Del Mar.
The upset win at 19-1 came a month after Wild in the Saddle returned to trainer Richard Baltas’s stable at Del Mar. It was the 6-year-old mare’s first start since a fourth-place finish behind division leader Beholder in the Grade 3 Adoration Stakes at Santa Anita on June 13.
Wild in the Saddle is owned by Nadine Anderson and Cheyenne Ortiz and spent time at Anderson’s farm in Hemet, Calif., in June and early July.
“Fillies sometimes freshen,” Baltas said. “I’ve had her back for about a month.”
Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Wild in the Saddle closed from fourth in a field of 10 to reach the front in the final sixteenth with a wide rally. Wild in the Saddle ($40.40) finished three-quarters of a length in front of 7-1 My Monet, who was 1 1/2 lengths in front of 57-1 Our Pure Creation. The $1 trifecta paid $3,041.50.
Sam’s Sister, who set the pace, faded to finish fourth, followed by Savings Account (the even-money favorite), Oscar Party, Honey Ride, Sky Mega, Harlington’s Rose, and Gas Total.
Wild in the Saddle ran a mile in 1:37.05. She won the Dream of Summer Stakes for California-breds at a mile at Santa Anita in March. A 6-year-old mare by Silic, Wild in the Saddle has won 9 of 37 starts and earned $360,968.
Remarkably, she won a $5,000 claimer at 4 1/2 furlongs at Los Alamitos in September 2012 before being acquired by Anderson and Ortiz.
