Wild Catomine regains composure to take Fury

ETOBICOKE, Ontario—Wild Catomine kept her unbeaten record intact Saturday at Woodbine with a gutsy win over the favorites Hot and Spicy and Lexie Lou in the $150,400 Fury Stakes.
Gary Boulanger had Wild Catomine ($13) pressing an honest pace set by Wild N Clever in the seven-furlong test for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies. She made the lead early in the stretch en route to a half-length tally in 1:22.42. Hot and Spicy edged out favored Lexie Lou for second, after getting bumped by that rival in late stretch.
Katherine Sullivan, an assistant to trainer Mark Casse, said Wild Catomine flipped in the paddock before the race.
“She was really on the muscle, but she seemed fine,” said Sullivan, regarding the paddock incident. “She may have bit her tongue, and [assistant David Adams] made a smart move and took her tongue tie off, which seemed to relax her again.”
Wild Catomine, who was coming off a maiden victory, earned $90,000 for owner John Oxley, who recently supplemented her to the June 15 Woodbine Oaks.
